Description Three days after starting this piece its finally done. I do not normally get emotional when I draw but this piece really pulls on my heart strings. So Great Loss is actually a piece I made in January of 2017 and I recently looked at it and felt I didn't do the tone justice back then due to my personal limitations with art. Now in 2020 I feel more confident in myself and that I could really do this emotional moment better.
Here is the link to the original version from 2017 if you'd like to compare my progress:  www.deviantart.com/deltora251/…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was an ordinary late summers day, Reggie was keeping a watchful eye on her young cub as he played outside the den with some fallen sticks from the trees above. In the distance, however, something seemed to be coming their way, a gentle horse from the shape of them, Reggie saw no threat in a simple herbivore.
As the creature came into view however Reggie realized they were no horse, creatures she had never seen before carrying bows and swords. She told her young cub to hide in the den she would soon return and to remain very quiet. As she ran off to distract the hunter and lead him away.
A chase began between the swift, sly fox mother and the unknown predator, Reggie soon gave the horse like monster the slip just outside of the forest but as she turned to head back home on a different route she heard the calls of death as birds fled the forest moving away from the scene. There was no way anyone had been killed in the forest, the hunter had left when he lost her track. There were no other predators in the forest besides her what was going on. A sick feeling fell over the mother as she ran back to her baby, desperately hoping and praying her child was alright.
Closing in on the den the scent of crimson death filled the air, Reggie slowed down fearing what was ahead. It couldn't be her baby, her baby was safe. Inching closer as the den came into view the horrors ahead came into the light. Hope drained from Reggie's body has she saw the broken body of her only child laying motionless just outside the den.
Blood.
So much blood.
The Mother began to weep uncontrollably at the site, a nightmare had taken place, Reggie's body became weak, her legs shaking, refusing to carry her any closer; there was more than one of those monsters.
There was no one to blame, her baby was murdered, his body left behind, what kind of a creature kills for the sake of killing...
The Mother weeps, her baby is dead.
