I just saw a study which showed how different emotions affected different parts of the body. Β If I remember correctly, this would closest resemble either love or hate (they were very similar). Β I really like this image, and the style used, but having just seen that, it brings a different element into it for me. Β Love it.

OH, DUDE! NOW>HERE>THIS!!! This is it! A touch of classic surrealism with that impasto hit of yours. Brilliant. Here I can see your language . . . a world view that you often do not express. This is most intriguing and powerful. This is a sophisticated and thoughtful blend of your strong suits and very distinctly your vision. You have that particular, recognizable style I've talked about, but this is the first time where I'm sensing your distinct personality within the content. The imagery you often choose is art school generic (which makes sense . . . a woman, a vase, a landscape, etc, all beautifully executed, but the content has not been terribly exciting. This content IS. This tells me something about you, as an artist, that I did not know. In terms of your professional development it is your vision rather than your technique that will ultimately sell. I'm convinced now you can muster (and master) the content. You have the mad skills to get there.

Your perspective, your terminology, all lend a sense of confident assurance to keep pressing ahead; thanks again for taking the time to encourage and challenge me and others to become better artists! As a person you seem to be a gift to the people your life touches. Thank you.

Love it! The figure reminds me of the movements and feeling thatΒ go with an attack of paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia (a rare movement disorder a bit like epilepsy)Β in the same way some of Francis Bacon's twisted figuresΒ do. I really like the setting too,Β reminiscent of Derek Jarman's sets for hisΒ biopic of Caravaggio - and obviously paintings of that era. There's definitely a little duality going on with this fellow; the elemental fire and water symbolism in the head, the nakedness as oppose to being clothed and the convulsion over his normal state. I'm perhapsΒ reading myself into this image a little, but I think that the best pictures allow you find something personal to connect with in them, regardless of that being the intention of the artist or not. Thank you so much for picking up on some of the intentional aspects of the composition as well as for expressing a sense of personal connection you found with the piece. This means a lot to me.
Sincerely,
JDG

Β Strong as most of your works.Β Why did you choose to cut the man's legs? Is there any symbol here?
π: 0 β©: 1
DeLumine In reply to ClairObscur16 [2014-11-11 15:41:47 +0000 UTC]
Thank you. -Β No symbol, but the placement and cropping of the figure in the composition is intentional; it's meant to bring the viewer into the scene, i.e., closer to the figure and part of the environment.
