Rachel,
I really like the composition of this shot and the cropping really emphasises, for me, the intrigue of this shot. It reminds of childhood days, when you found some where you knew you should not be, and you definitely should not enter! I really like the lighting in this work, and the contrast of colours between those wonderful basement doors and grey stairs. The scattered leaves and cobwebs adding that final piece of magic and mystery.
Thank you so much for sharing this inspirational work.
Simon

Thank you so much. I was originally torn about cropping it, or keeping more of the frame and wall in the shot. I sought the advice of a fellow DA member and he preferred the cropped one. And I am glad I took his advice, because I like it a lot more than the other one. Sometimes it takes the outsiders eye to help you really see the best shot. It was a creepy basement, so it was easy to get that mysterious feeling. Thank you so much for the kind words, Simon!

Somtimes i think how amazing it must be to live the states since there are so many open, cool abandoned sites... This series is wonderful! Here in Canada they're much more rare and the ones in town are always guarded!

I suppose I am lucky to be able to find so many. The sad thing is they are becoming a rare thing around where I live. This particular house was about 2 hours from Richmond. One of these days I am going to go on a road trip farther north. There are abandoned hospitals and schools all over the place in New York, Maryland etc. Hopefully one of these days you will be driving along and come across an abandoned building with no one guarding it
