Okay. I'm not sure what that's suppose to indicate, unless you think this poem is anti-all things feminine, which is not the point of it lol. =]

i fucking love this. absolutely.
i hate how its almost like society brainwashes women to have this maternal obligations. have you ever seen a windex or swiffer commercial? its always a woman cleaning...... I'm thinking, fuck that. I love myself too much to have a child, to be a slave to a husbands paycheck, to lower myself to be under a man. It should all be equal, cause sometimes the dad should have the children in the divorce court simply because he is the better parental figure.
Or maybe i just wasn't raised to have maternal instincts. I seriously should never have kids, haha!
so basically, thanks for writing this. its really inspiring.

I belong to a long line of feminists and I find this poem absolutely wonderful.
What femininity has become...rather than a celebration of femaleness, it is instead the caricature of womankind. Five-inch heels, make-up, hair-dye, the perfect body, side-parted blonde wavy hair, and expected to settle down and have children whether we want them or not and of course we are considered cold if we don't. Even now, we must be the virgin brides of our men, not allowed (at least not in a very socially acceptable way) to explore our sexuality the way a man may. And a man may go off and leave us to suckle the babes at our breast. And we are to simply accept it because of course we should be grateful that we had a child at all, no room for righteous anger at this abandonment. And, after all of this, we are still called the weaker sex. This is what femininity has become.
No, I believe femininity is a word we must reclaim. For example of reclamation, a bitch is a woman in complete control of herself.

Dementium
Cool screenname, btw. Firstoff, even as a male, I can say I know what you are speaking about, and I feel saddened when I read it because of its truths.
The greatest truth behind this poem, I believe, is that there is an undeniable patriarchy that has, throughout human civilization, subverted the powers of womanhood and the inherent wonder and beauty of its grace. The males hunt and dominate, while the females are seen as the nurturers and child-bearers. I sense your frustration with the fact that much of this patriarchy still exists in today's world, even though there is no longer the 'glass ceiling' for women looking for a high-level job, rights to vote, etc.
How does this train of thought/tradition of maleower, female=submission continue on even in modern day, one may ask. My answer is simple: generational lies. One father passes the lie to the son, that son grows to be the 'alpha' he knows his father wants him to be, and therefore the next son will continue the cycle of anti-female sentiment.
It's bullshit spawning bullshit, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, etc.
In a sense, Dementium, I wish you wouldn't have had to write 'Femininity'. (WAIT, HEAR ME OUT) In a better world, you would have not felt the immeasurable sorrow and bleakness I sense in this poem. But, as things go, and as terrible as the majority of 'men' tend to treat women, I know why you wrote this poem, and I commend you for its bravery.
Sincerely,
Nathan

Unfortunately, in many ways, the glass ceiling still exists. We have equal opportunity, but even still, women in Canada make 62% of what men make for the same work, and men are still much more likely to move up the ranks. As for the relative few women who do move up the ranks, they are subject to harassment and are often ostracized. We've a long way to go yet before equality is attained.

Don't cast away all your femininity, you'll just piss off all the feminists!
How in the hell does that happen? It seems nowadays feminists are for everything BUT being a mother or nurturer. Such a dirty word now days. Mother. Teehee!
Well worded work. Good shit!

That makes no sense. "Don't cast away all your femininity, you'll just piss off all the feminists." And then you say "...feminists are for everything BUT being a mother or nurturer." These statements contradict each other, because femininity is almost always associated with mothering and nurturing. So you're saying that feminists are for everything but femininity, but at the same time, don't cast away all femininity because it'll piss them off?
Also, nice generalization.

Perhaps his choice of words mislead you. I know what he means, but, unfortunately, I can't find the best words to explain it either, but I'll try:
Some feminists (usually the hardcore liberal feminists) seem to believe that settling down and resigning oneself to motherhood is a sign of weakness or something like that.
This group of said feminists, are generally "pro-choice" and "pro-sex" and more interested in making it socially acceptable for a women to sleep around without being called a slut, rather than try to take steps to reduce rape/date-rape/etc.
Generally speaking, the women I've met who are like this are very self-contradicting in themselves (and to give my frank opinion, I think most of them are nut cases).
Thankfully, most feminists aren't like this.
Hope that helps.

Pentacle5 In reply to Xanofar [2009-08-31 04:44:03 +0000 UTC]
Any "feminist" who sees motherhood as weakness is not a true feminist and doesn't deserve the title. A true feminist respects the choice a mother makes, but wants the father to play an equally active role in raising the children.
Most feminists are indeed pro-choice and pro-sex. I fail to see how this is a bad thing. By the way, it is possible to want it to be socially acceptable for women to sleep around without being called a slut (especially when men are able to do exactly that; why the double standard?) and to try to take steps to reduce rape. A true feminist should work for both. If you think about, they go hand in hand. What's one of the most widely used arguments a rapist will use against his victim? "She's a slut and she wanted it!" If consensual sex is socially acceptable for sexes, whether in a committed relationship or not, how then, can a rapist justify himself?

I don't really believe in the feminist movement, to be honest, not to say I'm opposed to it, I just don't believe they ever truly target the sources and the causes of the problems.
Plus, it's too full of self-contradictions.
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
Pentacle5 In reply to Xanofar [2009-08-31 17:14:16 +0000 UTC]
Well, I believe the only self-contradictions are what are shown in the media and what people socially believe of feminists. Most of which isn't true. I would suggest going to a feminist conference and reading some feminist literature. Your view on feminism may change if you know what feminism actually is as opposed to what most people seem to think it is.
