Some extra kilos on his ribs wouldn't hurt though. XD

Hm, a little of both I think. Not sure what Cornelius is thinking in the original Siesta piece. I think he doesn't quiet know what to make of all the fuzz.

Oh the elephant from siesta jungle picture! And quite a big one too. Well done! Design is all yours? Must have taken ages to be finished, eh?

Yes, I think that Cornelius was my first major design. This one isn't that big, but I have a larger one (also sitting unfinished in a closest for the past couple of years xD) The plan is to use the large guy to recreate the scene from Pain in the jungle. Just need to come up with a plan for his eyes and then I need to do Pete as well.

Haha, similar and then again not. :3 I've heard it before, though I tend to disagree.

I didn't mean you copied him or something, it just caught my eye in that way. I see some similarities but I'm not saying they look totally the same.

No problem. Gotta love these eyes! And I just realized he's actually your own character from your drawings. Now that's really cool!

I've turned the fish into a plush (same goofy eyes) and worked on Pete, but he was put on ice ages ago and then I forgot to finish him. xD There are also a few clay figures of the smaller critters. Rocky the frog (who appears in every Siesta picture or doodle), Eddie the turtle and Linus the Leech.

Haha, Al'Capone has been teasing Pete basically every night aout how slow he is and that he would never be able to catch him. I guess he got too cocky and let his tail dangle in front of Pete's snout one moment too long. ;3
Willy is one of the latest additions. He can be seen in the ID and then in a few siesta doodles.

It's been their relation for the past couple of years xD Al'Capone is a mischievous cat. I think his character was partly inspired by Scar from the Lion King. That very first scene where he is playng with his food, that's very much how I think of Al. I do think he was aware of the consequenses, but then again he was so sure of himself, that he considered it impossible for Pete to ever grab him.

the doodles and the outlines for Siestain the Jungle and How to catch your fly were drawn on paper. Pain in the Jungle and Al Capone where drawn on tablet.

Aha. I prefer drawing on paper but it's true that I probably didn't try hard enough on tablet.Β

I like both, but sketching and drawing precise lines are eaier on paper. To get the lines the way I want them on the tablet I have to try over and over many times until I have a fluke. xD

Tell me about it! I only borrowed one tablet from a friend but I just couldn't use it the way I expected it to. So I switched back to the good old paper pretty quick. XD

Haha, it needs some getting used to, especially not using it as a mouse. xD
You might want to check that you have the proper drivers installed for it. Else the tablet might not recognize the imenions of the monitor and emulate those properly. A friend of mine had that issue and was totally anti tablets, until she discovered that it wasn't working in the intnded way. Now she love her tablet.

Thanks for your lovely comment! I think part of it can be contributed to the fabric as well as the pattern. If you check the behind the scene pictures of his making, you'll see that the fabric supports the shape very well even before there's actually any stuffing in it. xD [link]
I've been working on a horseleg lately, using a far softer fabric and getting it to express the intended shape has been impossible so far. I'm still pondering how to solve that and am thinking of adding some supporting fabric to see if that can improve on the shapes. [link] XD

A larger version is available as commission for 230 USD + shipping once I'm back from my summerbreak. The actual size can be seen in this picture of one that yet has to get its eyes attached: [link]
If you're still interested despite the price tag, just send me a note. ^^

I didn't think of it back then, when I named him. But later on I've remembered that there was a childrens story about some elephants in human clothing when I was little. I think the elephant king was named Babar (atleast in the swedish version) and there was this really old, all wrinkled and frail elephant advisor(?) that was named Cornelius. Could that be it? :3
Your cousin is absolutely right and sometimes I dread the eyes. xD

I used faux suede (for upholstery) for the body and tusks. The eyes are made from white felt and the pupils from black faux leather.
Faux suede is my favorite fabric. It's easy to work with (although though at times, due to the supporting layer of coarse fabric on the off-side) and I love the feel and looks of it. The only problem is finding nice colors and animals that are suited, due to lack of "fur". :3

Oh, I know what you mean. I heard my cousin complaining about very similar problems the other day. How about your worst (least fav) material you've ever worked with? XD

demiveemon In reply to gelee9 [2012-04-22 20:28:06 +0000 UTC]
Hmm... Henry was torture. XD
It was my first time working with furry fabric. I wanted Henry's furcoat to look a bit raggy and not too shiny, since real mammoths didn't have a shiny and even hide. In order to get that result I had to turn the fabric so that the fur would point in another direction, than otherwise. I remember that I had troubles with getting that right on all pieces.
What really made the fabric a bithc to work with, was that it is stretchy in one direction. Combined with two layers of fur, going in opposing directions, made it stretch and shift when I was trying to sew it. Had to use needles very close to eatchother in order to pin it down. X_X
But faux suede can be hell too. If the pieces are too small it becomes very hard to work with. The small Cornelius was a nightmare. The trunk got stuck when I tried to turn the fabric right and it took me nearly an hour, before I managed to turn it. Not to mention attaching those 18 toes of his. xDD
