Eyepatch-wearing blade-wielding eccentric warriors of a historical era (Edo Period/11th Century England) who are high ranking members of an organization under the rulers of the country (Okita the captain of a Shinsengumi unit, a police force employed by the Shogunate/Thorkell is commander of his own band of vikings as well as King Canute’s army). They’re friends/rivals to a more stoic warrior looking to avenge their father/father figure’s murder (Ryoma and Thorfinn) with a desire to battle them on a one-on-one and who they begin to show more respect after being defeated by them
