Subtype: Chitin-Gill
Subtype: Cockroach Demon, Pure, Wrath, Organic Humanoid, Loyaless, Grunt
Type: Arthropod Demon
Species: Demon
Subcategory: Arthropod
Category: Fiend
Other Names: Mercenary Cockroach Demon, Bugman, Roachman or Battleroach (by Ford), Rotten Snack (by Eggs), Yiulziq /Yee-owl-zeek/ or Yiult Ziqwaxy /Yee-owl-zeek-wax/ (Luciferian), etc.
Location: Chitin-Gills can be found in just about any place within the Infernal Spheres, no matter the realm withers it be a realm made up of mostly water or high up in the sky with chunks of floating rock.
They can also be found on Earth, summoned by curious magic-users, power hungry cultists, or by other Demons and creatures to serve as easy to command soldiers and goons to do their bidding.
Coloration: Gray-green chitin-shells, neon green eyes, dark gray uniforms, brown leather combat boots, tan undergarments, red half-cap (Sergeants Only), fiery red gloves with gold trims (Sergeants Only), and red-and-black exterior armor
Size: 6'0" feet (adult), 4'0" feet (young)
Weight: 250 pounds (adult), 125 pounds (young)
Language: Human (Sergeants speak human, normal Chitin-Gill can't speak it but understands it) and Luciferian (Isstheric)
Description: They resemble average humans wearing military outfits and armor, both in built and size, with the exception of their cockroach-like heads and visible roach wings growing out of their backs. The Chitin-Gill Sergeants have longer antennae, much cleaner clothing and broader built than average Chitin-Gills.
Personality: Cooperative and organized Demons, easy to work with and can be very talkative and open if treated fairly or crude and aggressive when treated poorly; all depending on who they’re working for as Chitin-Gills mimic the personality of whoever their master is.
Abilities: Chitin-Gills are cheap Demons where just about anyone can command them with little trouble. Unlike other similar Demons, Chitin-Gills (with the exception of the Chitin-Gill Sergeant) have limited abilities suited for any job:

  • Perfect Soldier: Chitin-Gills are both stronger and more durable than an average human as well as having more stamina with equal human intelligence, allowing them to perform tasks more efficiently than a human solider or mercenary. Chitin-Gill Sergeants, having higher than average human intelligence, are able to command other Chitin-Gills to perform tasks and act out strategies they can’t normally do on their own.
  • Imbalanced Senses: Due to having the head of roaches, their sense of hearing is quite poor but make up for it for their sense of smell and touch which are far superior to even that of mundane cockroaches.
  • Night Vision: Chitin-Gill eyes can see in near-total darkness, allowing them to move about in dark locations with little trouble.
  • Bug Flight: Like the cockroach, Chitin-Gills have two large roach-like wings growing out of their backs which allows them to fly at the speed of 160 mph and hover above the ground.
  • Amphibious: Chitin-Gills, despite being based off of cockroaches and humans, can survive in any and all bodies of water due to having fully functioning gills as well as small retractable fins on their bodies, allowing them to move about in water as swiftly as if on land.
  • Diseased Bite: The saliva from a Chitin-Gill carries minor but no less infectious diseases onto anyone who gets bit by their mandibles, more of an annoyance than a hindrance.
  • Regeneration: Like their mortal counterparts, Chitin-Gills can regrow limbs lost in combat, in fact, they can even regrow their whole bodies after being torn apart and partially eaten in a matter of hours.
  • Weapon Mastery: Chitin-Gills can wield all sorts of weapons wither they be pole arms, guns, cannons, explosives, blades, etc. as long as they can kill targets with them, most of the time Chitin-Gills use long range weapons such as handguns, machine guns, rifles, etc. in order to carry out missions quickly and professionally but there are times when hand weapons like swords and daggers are more proficient. Not only do they know how to handle weapons of various types but are also skilled in creating and using explosives such as hand grenades and dynamite.
  • Instant Mercenary: Chitin-Gills can lay eggs which quickly spawn into more Chitin-Gill, allowing them to create a large number of Chitin-Gills in short time. The process only takes a few days, while the newly hatched reach maturity in the same amount of time.
  • Infernalism (Sergeants Only): Demons can channel the dark powers of the Infernal Spheres into different spells and rituals that demons can’t normally do on their own such as opening portals to different realities, manipulate mortal minds without the need of confrontation, mutating mortal animals into hellish hybrids, etc. Chitin-Gill Sergeants are the only ones out of Chitin-Gill units that gain access to limited selection of demonic magic spells, all associated with combat, radiation, and healing allies such as:
    • Infernal Healing: By consuming the blood of a Demon, the subject’s health is restored, all injuries on the body vanishes, and they gain a boost of demonic might and power. If the subject, in question, is a human or demon host, however, the Demon Host would gain all of the above but become more aggressive, violent, semi-feral and have a hard time changing back into their human forms while the human or other non-demonic creature would be sickened and temporally transform into a Demon.
    • Armor of Darkness: By reciting incantations in the foul demonic tongue, a thick cloud of smog-like shadows rises from one’s own shadow and covers the summoner in a deadly armor capable of eating away anything that makes contact with the armor.
    • Radio-Bolts: Chitin-Gill Sergeants shoot out blasts of radiation at small units of enemies, mostly mortals, which singe the flesh and inflict a deadly poison within surviving enemies.
    • Balefire: Reciting this foul incantation allows the user to shoot out streams of sickly green flames that corrupts mortal life similar to earthly radiation.
  • Poisoned Blood: The blood of Chitin-Gills is very toxic, any creature that tastes the blood and/or consumes the flesh of a Chitin-Gill (intentional or by accident) would immediately get poisoned.
  • Poison Painless: Due to the nature of their blood, Chitin-Gills are immune to poison of all types, even the deadly effects of radiation.
  • Holy Bad: Due to their demonic nature, demons have a natural revulsion to holy symbols, places, religious figures, objects, etc. some Demons are more effected by curtain holy things than others.
  • Holy Painful: Like cold iron for some Demons, different holy things like crosses, holy water, and the like can harm demons, causing intense pain and can weakening them.
  • Light Bad: Chitin-Gills are very sensitive to light of all kinds, such as sunlight, flashlights, torches, etc. due to very sensitive eyes.
Society: Chitin-Gills are the grunts, goons, and soldiers for hire within the Infernal Spheres and as such behave like actual soldiers to their masters and fellow comrades to each other; rarely seen alone, they normally can be found in groups called “swarms” which can number up to 10 or more depending how many clutches of eggs are laid. They are very sociable to each other within the swarm, they chat to each other when bored, perform different jobs like “cleaning the weapons”, “setting up camp”, etc. playing small games with each other, eat and drink together, etc. same to other swarms too.
Relationships: Chitin-Gills only work for their master, the Chitin-Gill Sergeant, and to whoever is working with their master. Outside of their master, Chitin-Gill only work and interact with each other and hardly deal with any other demon or mortal unless ordered to by their master.
Biology:
  • Diet: Being strictly carnivorous, they would consume small creatures such as birds, mice, cats, puppies, badgers, rabbits, foxes, turkeys, fauns, etc. in a similar manner like humans but they would eat them raw.
  • Senses: Chitin-Gills have long roach-like antennae that gives them far superior sense of smell and touch while their eyes allow them to see in near-total darkness but are very sensitive to bright light which easily blinds them. Due to them having traits and body parts like those of cockroaches, they have poor hearing which makes sneaking up on them and avoiding detection very easy to pull off.
  • Spawn Creation: The exact origin of the Chitin-Gills is unknown, though it is known that the first few Chitin-Gills were spawned from the souls of corrupt and black-hearted mercenaries, greedy individuals who are willing to kill for the right price. Over time as the first batch of Chitin-Gills appeared. They soon began spawning eggs on their own and started spreading throughout the realms, they became the go to demon mercenaries both demons, humans, and other beings can contact for their own personal instant army.
  • Life Cycle: Sense they're easy to make soldiers, they would quickly mature into adult hood in a short amount of time (roughly a few days for the egg clutches to incubate and hatch and a few days to reach maturity) and would already know how to operate weapons, obey orders, perform tasks, etc.
  • Homelands: Due to the Chitin-Gills being a breed of Mercenary Demons, they do not have a true native home within the Infernal Spheres but instead can be found almost anywhere, mostly in demonic fortresses or cities.
Personal Views:
“From what I gathered, these Demons are some of the most common types summoned by wizards, witches, and warlocks in recent years. They always act like loyal henchmen and tend to act like their masters too. Guess summoning Imps went out of fashion sense the 1900s.”
~ Cross, recalling to the rest gang on the Chitin-Gill after Raz and Lili came back from a recon mission while looking for the missing Journal 1

“Oh man, oh man, oh man, we got to find that journal fast! What? Why?! That’s Journal 1! Gruncle Ford’s first journal! It contains all the monsters and locations Ford has been/encountered during his first few years in Gravity Falls!”
~ Dipper, after writing down what had happened to him and the others while coming back from the swamp and panicking over the lost Journal

“I’m more bothered by there being giant bugmen in the woods than losing my mind over an old book Ford can easily repla—OW! Sorry, sorry!”
~ Ness, after being smacked by a panicking Dipper

"Its better just to look for this Gareth guy and get that book back or else we won't hear the end of it from Dipper."
     ~ Coraline

Adventure Plots:
Journal-napper Part 1: While the Mystery Kids were heading back to the Mystery Shack after a messy mishap at a nearby swamp, a strange kid wearing high-tech armor steals one of the Journals from Dipper. Unable to stop him, the gang, along with Ford, search for the Journal napper who, with the help of the girl called Cross, managed to learn of the boy’s name, Gareth, and his apparent dealings with a demon living in the woods of Gravity Falls with his cockroach-like henchmen.
