What is it one can say when facing death? There isn’t much to say, I guess. Good-bye to your mother, or maybe your husband. But certainly not to the world. It is common, I have heard, for many to say “Good-bye cruel world!” in the cartoons and irritating movies where the victim is writhing and moaning on the floor in all too phony agony, so that by the end when the guy’s finally dead, you’re just glad to see the ‘im go. Personally, dear friends, and I’ll tell you but once, I disagree with the phrase all together. If the world is so cruel, then why say good-bye, sniveling as if to an old friend? It would be a bit more in line to scream, “See ya, freak!” Now that would seem more sensible (And more entertaining)than crying and whimpering, “Good-bye cruel world!”
