Aurora Investigates Automata

Agent Dawn "Aurora" Bourne had followed the van to the large industrial complex in hopes of discovering another lead. She had been systematically investigating common links between the victims. Several were linked in some way to a Doctor Ethan Devereaux or to friends of his acquaintances. It was nothing to justify a warrant, but as she interview several people, it became apparent that the link was worth checking on. She had staked out 3 of his many business or investment properties, and was about to call it a night when a cargo van pulled out of a security garage and drove away with it's light off. That was too unusual to ignore. She followed.
The van was white with darkly tinted windows and had a simple black logo on the doors that said "Automata" in italicized font. She had never heard of it. She scribbled the plate number down on the notepad she kept in the car for later. As Dawn followed the van through the dark wide streets of the industrial area, she was worried the driver might notice her with no other traffic around. The van slowed and turned into a large complex and went down a ramp to the building parking garage. Surprisingly, she saw no guard or security cameras. Strange not to have anything she thought as she pulled past the building and found an alley or the same side of the street to turn down. She parked the car and pulled her phone out.
She quickly sent a text to her partner, who was probably asleep by now, and let him know where she was and asked him to check on the license plate for her. She checked her service weapon to make sure the clip was full and a round was in the chamber. Instead of her normal suspender carry rig, she strapped on a leg holster and put the weapon in the holster. This would be easier to draw from if she needed it. She hopped out of the car and grabbed her blazer (jacket) from the back where it hung on a hanger to keep it wrinkle free. She pulled on her jacket, made sure that her credentials where in the pocket, then jogged back towards the building.
She cautiously approached the ramp and peered down. There was no door or gate, just an opening large enough for large trucks. She crept down the ramp glancing around for any cameras or guards. She saw none. When she reached the bottom, she saw the several vans parked in the area, and one backed up against a roll up door, that allowed items in the back to be wheeled out the back into the building. She could not tell which van was the one she followed, so she walked past each one and placed her hand on the hood of each. They were all cold except the one against the loading bay. "Bingo", she whispered with a smirk and tried to see between the rear of the van and loading bay. The van was pressed tightly up against the seal around the loading bay, so she could not see anything. She looked around and found a door that she thought might get her into the bay. The garage lights were space quite far apart and made the area gloomy and dim, but she was able to use her lockpicks to gain access to the metal door beside the load bay after about 10 minutes of working. She quietly entered and pulled her weapon from the holster.
No one was around, but she heard humming from all around. Maybe a air handler or some kind of fan. It hummed and covered (hid)the sound of her foot falls. "Dang, should have worn my running shoes instead of these stupid heels", she grumbled under her breath as she squinted to see in the far corners of the bay. She noticed another large door leading into a warehouse area and a single security door leading further into the building. She searched the area but could not find a way to open the large roll-up door into the warehouse area so she decided to try and pick the lock into the secure office area. It took several minutes, but she managed to unlock the deadbolt and gain entry. She opened the door to a brightly lit corridor with several other secure doors along the sides, except for one that was half open. "Ha, got you. Let's see what is going on in here", she whispered to herself as she drew her weapon again and proceeded towards the partially opened door.
