Description The Siamese crocodile (Crocodylus siamensis) is a medium-sized crocodilian from Southeast Asia. They are native to the countries of Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam but have been extirpated from much of their historical range. This species occupies a variety of freshwater habitats, including lakes, rivers, swamps, and marshland. Fish and snakes are their main prey, but they eat amphibians and small mammals as well. Unfortunately, this is one of the most endangered crocodilians in the world and is thus listed as Critically Endangered. They are gone from an estimated 99% of their historic range. Habitat degradation and illegal hunting are the biggest threats to the species. Only a few hundred remain in the wild, but over 700,000 are kept in commercial crocodile farms.
