Here the tongue is not blocking the throat, so this could be used as a gasping reference, but the tongue and throat would be in different poses if one was yelling or screaming. The tongue would be rolled outwards to project the sound more, as would the throat, and the uvula would contract a bit to compensate for not getting in the way of the flow of air. I believe this photo was taken right before a large breath of air was expelled into the photographer’s face, so the inside of the mouth is well positioned for a gasping pose… except I don’t know anyone who would open their mouth that wide to gasp for breath no matter how much they needed it.
