Description This is a dragon I spent around... six hours trying to get right and all that jazz. The true blue Japanese style isn't really my thing, so when I was trying to draw a dragon, one of my specialties, in it, it fucking pissed me off. I've never really done a full blown traditional piece, or tried to make the dragon look traditional, so it took patience and around four pages of my sketch book with failed attempts and a few that were very close but no cigar until this bad boy came about.
There are a few things here and there that I don't like, but all in all i am very pleased with this picture. I'm not sure whether or not I'm going to scale him, it would take forever, but it would look so bad ass.
Either way this is purely practice for getting it down pat before I even attempt to go in for my apprenticeship at a tattoo shop here in the great city of Austin. I think it came out good. What do you guys think?

Hi there! I hope it's okay, but I heavily referenced your dragon lineart in a personal piece of artwork that I created. Hi there. I found this a few months ago and it was just perfect as a base for a Japanese dragon character who'd turned up during my NaNoWriMo novel last year. You can see him here: Heart of Flame I've linked back here and credited you as the base source.

I coloured it in Photoshop and added a bunch of filters and other effects to get the final look. The feathering/scaled differentiation happened completely by accident as I was playing around with some filters and I liked it too much to change it. I think this dragon has a mind of his own.

This looks good and probably the hardest part about these dragons is the curves which you pretty much nailed. Scales really aren't that hard they're just repetitiive. Good wok though!

As long as I get credit, I'm fine with that. And as long as you tell the artist that they cannot use it as another flash for their portfolio, then we're good.


have fun! Tattoos are awesome. oh, and take a vicodin before going on the chair, helps with the pain and the nerves.

He's actually a Japanese dragon, meaning that he's only supposed to have three. It goes China has five, Korea has four, and Japan has three. Thanks for the compliment though

i think it looks awesome but yeah you have to individually draw and ink that scales its a real hassle but worth it in the end haha

im actually planning on getting a japanese dragon tattoo along my back and wraping around to upper chest and throwing in a few lotus flowers

This is stunning, I've seen many beautiful Asian dragon artworks but this one Puts the icing on and eats the preverbial cake! I was wondering, I am designing a Haori/pants set and was wondering if I could ahve this design embroidered in gold on the back of the haori.
