Exudes emotion. A lot of people can relate to that feeling of loss and feeling as if something is missing or was taken away from you and that hopelessness of feeling as if you could never get it back.

I don't want to come off sounding mean or like an asshole by saying this, instead I intend to help give advice to those that may be insecure about the quality of their work.
This photo is a great example of how creativity over technical quality can make it or break it. The photo is quite soft, the lighting a bit too cool for my taste. But the composition, the use of props and the model, bring the idea together. All it takes is a vision, and the will to express it.

The prop is excellent; it looks disturbingly like a heart. I'd like to see better focus, though, as the whole shot looks sligtly blurry. Perhaps use a tripod next time?

I love how in your picture, the heart looks like a raw piece of meat, like a raw muscle clamped together. I was pretty much tired of bloody hearts, this made me like hearts all over again XD

Interesting concept piece but its execution is, well... lacking. As several people have pointed out over the course of the day, it doesn't seem like you know a thing about operating your camera. Its out of focus, its grainy, and just no life in the image itself, nothing makes it stand out other than "oh look a disembodied heart with nails in it". I suggest learning to get know your machine a little better before attempting any more great masterpieces as deemed by the "macabre" moderator.

There's been worse you know. To me it doesn't really look all that blurry and I can easily see this was taken with a gray rainy sky.
Or maybe it's ment to be blurry. You don't know the artist and neither do I.
And I really never have seen a heart look well... like an actual heart ((And I have seen pickled hearts... yuck)) And well I have never really seen art like this but of course I like drawing more than phots most of the time.
Maybe it's the concept of the picture that it was awarded for.

Hey, they post it online for people to see, if they aren't ready for crit, then they shouldn't post it. I've given constructive crit and then I defended myself against thousands of small children upset by the fact that theres actually someone who isn't orgasming over a poor photo.
