Description I first noticed it on Easter Sunday
While chewing a piece of egg-shaped gum
Listening to a fire inside my headphones

I wondered if those around me
Could smell the artificial aroma of the gum
Better than I
For my head was wrapped in the notes
Changing their names and therefore their entire beings
and the beat,
Steadily persevering,
Without ever thinking of straying.

I shunned my wandering mind
For confusing smell
With the entirely different hearing
And I was awed by the temporary foolishness
My mind indulged itself in

And I thought it natural
Sometimes the mind,
Having lay in the afternoon sun,
Or swam in the cool waters of idle thinking
May walk down one path
With his eyes on another
And forget which one he is on altogether

Since you've skipped on punctuation (full stops in particular) I'm a little surprised that you've persisted with a capital letter at the beginning of most lines. Is this a conscious decision based on the style of Billy Collins? - I've not read anything by that author, so I can't make that determination for myself.

I love the thoughtfulness behind your "piece of egg-shaped gum", that's poetic mastery I see there.

Regards,

James
