Description You’ve seen me naked.

You can say you haven’t, but you are probably lying. The night Jay Leno mentioned me in his monologue the server crashed three times. If you weren’t among the thousands of voyeurs who logged on, you tried later after your household was dark and quiet − long after your kids and spouse were asleep. Hell, they’ve probably seen me naked too.

Most people know about the strawberry birthmark on my inner thigh and the appendectomy scar on my stomach. Of course everyone knows about the tattoo: the falling blue jay with the broken wing that adorns the bicep of my left arm. Much has been made of that small tattoo. It’s been dissected to death in chat rooms and on blogs the length and breadth of cyberspace. Aficionados will tell you the bird isn’t there in my debut flick, and that I cannot possibly be the same man you see in later videos.

They are correct.

The tattoo was Lydia’s idea; “stage dressing” she called it. It was inked on with a much-hated needle before they shot RentBoy; if you look closely, the inflammation is still apparent on camera.

I am also not the same man. I’ve been changed in intimate ways. Unspeakable ways. I’m quite sure I will never be the same again.

Still insisting you haven’t peeked? Not even once? I will pretend to believe you. After all, you could have learned the sordid details in less-disturbing ways. There was the in-depth segment on Nightline, and the unauthorized bio in Maxim. Rolling Stone magazine ran an exclusive interview, but the questions were submitted by email and ghost-answered by Marcus. I was as surprised by my “traditional upbringing” as you were. The Wall Street Journal revealed a few titillating facts in a business profile. (Let it never be said those editors don’t know how to sell papers.) Even the Conservative Christian Right pulled back the covers a time or two while blasting me for corrupting American family values.

Everyone knows how to find me twenty-four hours a day, including Christmas. But no one knows where I am, or who I am. Gay men want to blow me. Straight men want to be me. Lonely women want to hold me. Strong women want to save me. Everyone wants a piece.

Lydia and Marcus own me.

I am the hottest thing on the Internet, and I will live forever. Or at least for as long as Marcus maintains the feed. In reality – which is the world I inhabit – I am a prisoner. I exist only for as long as I can hold your interest. For you, I am bound, gagged, tortured and pleasured. For you, I bind, gag, torture and pleasure others − and do it with apparent ease, with apparent willingness.

I have to. The day you stop watching, they will kill me.

You may get to see that too.

I am an international obsession, a catch phrase, and an icon. I am jon.com. And you are my lifeline.

Do you mind telling me the deviant's name? Curiousity, dontcha know. Thank you for your wonderful words of support. You can find jon.com on lulu.com or amazon.com, but if you do buy it, please make it from lulu. I get a better slice of the sale. I just discounted it recently too, so you'll get it at a better price.

I believe her dA name is kaze-bara. She might still swing by here occasionally, but last time I spoke with her she mentioned she was too busy with school to keep up with this place.

Kaze? I remember her well. She was a regular reader with encouraging helpful comments. Tell her I said hi!

Oh, wow. I happened upon some fanart of this story by *ThundersSilence .
I must have read the first seven or so chapters a year ago or something, before it was deleted here - and I still remember almost every page. This is amazing, I never expected to run across this again. I'm going to buy the book if I can find it somewhere...

denlm In reply to Saerileth [2010-07-07 13:07:22 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! The book is available on amazon.com and on lulu.com. If you want to keep a struggling author afloat, please make your purchase through Lulu. Just search their books category for jon.com by Jonathan Smythe. The price is the same no matter where you buy it, but the authors get a bigger royalty through Lulu. Amazon takes a cut of every sale as their commission. If you do buy it, I would love to hear how you like it now that it has been edited and fleshed out (so to speak -- lol).

Well, I've never heard of Lulu before. Do they ship to Germany or Switzerland? I probably wouldn't have purchased it on amazon anyway. It's my mother's credit card I'm using there, and I don't think she approves of this kind of books.

Yes, they do ship to Germany and Switzerland. I have lots of readers in Europe. Good luck! And thanks.

I've been waiting to view your sight because I wanted to give your prose the attention I knew it would deserve. Your comments on my poems are so supportive and encouraging, I'm definitely realizing what a maternal role you play on this site- to steal your words again and send them back to you: "Lucky, lucky us." I'm a major book collector and I'm told my daughter will be receiving a copy of your new book shortly but I have a feeling I'll be compelled to buy a copy of my own. I'm really intrigued with the opening of jon.com- it seems like Exit to Eden with a macabre twist that will put it in a category of its own. Quality erotic suspense is a rare challenge- so much of the genre seems to lack depth and literary quality- your work is obviously going to clear the bar. I look forward to reading more and want to thank you again for your critiques. My goal is to get at least a clean chapter or two of prose up before school starts next month. It will focus on the transition from the reign of England's nasty (or misunderstood)King John to that of Henry III. I don't know if you're interested in medieval history or the Plantagenet rulers, but they're favorites of mine. I also adore the Wars of the Roses and the rise of the Tudor dynasty, as well as Greece from the Persian Wars to the Age of Pericles (especially Aspasia!) and the fall of the Roman republic, but one project at a time! Your site is definitely too good to rush through- thank you for your work!

I don't know if you're interested in medieval history or the Plantagenet rulers, but they're favorites of mine. I also adore the Wars of the Roses and the rise of the Tudor dynasty... I am a huge fan and have read numerous historical biographies and fictionalized histories related to these eras. I will look forward to your chapters most eagerly!

And thank you, what a lovely compliment. I need to spend more time on my final edit of jon.com and less time chatting on dA, but I had to say something about your comment. I was so flattered.

I think I never commented on this before...
This is what I call good storytelling! You manage to rise interest with the first sentences. The phrasing and the rhythm... all works well together and the reader is direktly drawn in. You rise sympathy for the main character with no effort. I sure will read on, even if it takes time since I'm lazy.
Good work!!!

I read the first four chapters... it is really interesting and very well written! I like how the story is building up, the introduction of the different characters, how the little mysteries unfold. There is much room for imagination. Jon is slender, has black hair and blue eyes... he is a VERY good actor.. Still I have room for *MY* Jon and his exact looks.
Until now, I love it!!!

i was loling while reading this, because the character was insisting ide seen him naked, i didnt know who the hell he was and didnt realize that it was fiction, and i was all like: "self important dumbass...youre a dude, i wouldnt give you two thoughts."

you see, thats how well you write. i was insulting your character for being full of himself. if you can get a person to do that (in addition fooling them into thinking its real), then youve got real talent.

denlm In reply to SolusUmbra [2009-03-02 15:36:07 +0000 UTC]

What an incredible comment! Thank you. I am now the one who is full of herself. That was exactly the reaction I was hoping for but couldn't imagine ever achieving. I hope you keep reading. The "dumbass" is heading for disaster.

SolusUmbra In reply to denlm [2009-03-02 18:50:37 +0000 UTC]

to be honest, the only reason i stopped to read it was that i was curious after reading what i could on the DD channel. its not really what im interested in.

but that doesnt mean i cant think you have talent.

although, if you start writing something less grounded in the real world...say science fiction or fantasy, then im your demographic. but thats just me. ide definitely read that.

and just as there are readers who arent into certain types of stories, there are writers who arent into writing certain types of stories.

....i started rambling. sorry.

suffice it to say, i liked the peice as a stand alone, but have to admit that i would get bored if i tried to read an entire book on the subject.

but dont let that discourage you. there are plenty of other people who will appreciate it.

I suspect I might too one day, assuming I become published and known for one genre. Still, though, I think I would write under an assumed name so I could experiment with other formats. It's much more fun that way.
