For the contest at that calls for a portrait in any media depicting your favourite Johnny Depp character, giving a brief synopsis as to why he's your favourite.

Sweeney Todd is so intriguing to me, with his few spoken lines and the passion and depth of his songs (not to mention his sexy, raspy baritone, rawr), and the raw, unadulterated emotion that makes every scene he's in crackle with this macabre emotional energy that's completely palpable. The transformation he's undergone, beginning as the innocent young husband and father, Benjamin Barker, and gradually degenerating into this unspeakably dark and tormented shell of a man bent on "vengeance and salvation" is so fascinating. Sweeney is pure tragedy, and I've always been attracted to those broken, beautiful, tortured souls. Sweeney's only drive is revenge; that's all that matters to him (much to Mrs. Lovett's chagrin). Plus, his look is to die for, literally. From the gothic, Victorian-era clothing that just looks so darn good on him to the pale, sunken appearance of his handsome face and his nest of wild black hair streaked with a stark white stripe...and those black eyes that stare right through you. Half-crazed, morbidly quirky...Damn, he is one sexy motherf***er!

And that is why I've chosen Sweeney Todd as my favourite Depp character (because I had to choose only one).

This was intended to be part of a larger drawing, but I'm really bad at finishing the things I start, so I thought I'd scan it and putz around a bit with it in Photoshop, et voila.

Red mechanical pencil sketch with Prismacolour pencils for colouring on textured grey Canson paper. This is the best Sweeney drawing I've ever done...and one of the best Depp-related drawings in general I've ever managed to pull off. I'm not sure how many hours it took. Let's just say several.
