Always wondered if this was the case for me. Had a relationship with a control freak... After we broke it off, everyone asked: "We all knew. How the heck could you deal with it?" I never had a clue.

well, for my instance, im pretty much watching my best friend do this to herself, she keeps going back to this awful ex of hers and we dont live in the same state anymore so all i can do is talk to her and try to get her to see how bad he is, but it doesnt work,,, its really painful only being able to confort her when he does something terrible to her

Yup. Unfortunately it's only 400pixels here on deviantart, it's a bit bigger on the main site.

hm... this is actually a little true, but also a little different in my experience.
I was in a relationship with someone who has depression and they were the one emotionally abusing and using me... but I don't every really think they meant to hurt me... and I loved them very much...

Here you said "maybe depression blinds you to abuse..."
Do you think it could also blind people to abuse given by them?

I've done strips on that line as well -- e.g. www.depressioncomix.com/posts/… . Depressed people will get toxic after some time, and which is why mentally healthier people will try to cut them out of their lives after some time (e.g. www.depressioncomix.com/posts/… ). It is hard to help a toxic person and even more difficult to have deeper committed relationships with them.

As for depressed people being blind to the abuse they give absolutely -- www.depressioncomix.com/posts/… -- although in this case, he's a little more aware of the abuse he dishes out because it makes for a more readable strip. And www.depressioncomix.com/posts/… suggests you hurt people because that's just what you do when you're depressed.

None of these are answers of course, but there are many many layers to depression and it's going to take some time to explore them all.
