Paper Mario/Mario Story style sprites for Crowber, an enemy from- you guessed it- the New Super Mario Bros series (except for U and Deluxe).

These pests aren’t afraid of anything. Why should they be? They stick in a group, like the little peckers they are. Crowbers are also rather uneven in their speed- starting off slow, then darting towards people they wish to annoy. One could jump on a Crowber- but that would like just put them in the path of another. They’re devious avians, and not for the birds!

Crowbers are in an odd spot of commonality- they appeared in main 2D games, sure, but they’re not used much in spin-offs. They also tend to change color between appearances (mostly being purple in NSMBWii and NSMB2), which is why I included both. The only spin-off they appear in besides the following paragraph’s subject is Dr Mario World, where they can be assistants.

Onto Crowber’s Paper Mario history…which is also spooky and unusual. They were supposed to show up in the 3DS game, but they were cut. If there were sprites, I wouldn’t know. In addition, they’re apparently a quiz answer in the Paper Jam crossover. Eventually, they did appear in Origami King as enemies converted into the Folded in their black coloration…but as these are fanmade sprites, you can guess 2D Crowbers themselves never appear.
…Kind of eerie, when one thinks about it. Crowbers are in Paper Mario, but they also aren’t. Like some kind of Shrodinger’s Cat…or Shrodinger’s Crow.

Crowber doesn’t get any additional appearances in the DMZ fantopics or Recuts, either. At best, since I never delved into Paper Jam Recut’s sidequests, Crowber could rhetorically still be there as a quiz answer…but what if they aren’t? The unsureness of Crowber’s existence continues, even unofficially. Oooooooooo….
