Description Immediately after her sister fell, Louise rushed to Iris. She was at the landing of the three stairs leading from their garage to the kitchen, having fallen forward after losing her balance. She had then tumbled through the doorway and luckily came to rest there after hitting the wall, rather than continuing down another flight all the way to the basement. Her nursing training made her proceed with caution and not move or touch Iris in case of spinal injury, though she wished to comfort her whimpering sister, laying in intense pain.

Iris' foam cervical collar was loose and her orthodontics were in ruins, but worse of all appeared to be her arms. She had instinctively held out her hands to break her fall but they took the full force of the impact and had snapped mid-forearm. Her hands were mangled as well, with most fingers bent at unnatural angles. All Louise could do was to phone for an ambulance immediately. As she waited nervously, anxious for the now unconscious Iris to get help, she realized that Tabea couldn't be left alone and called her supervisor at the hospital and asked for a favor.

Just minutes after Iris was picked up, a second ambulance came to drive Tabea to the hospital as well. She needed 24/7 care and Iris would no longer be able to provide that after her fall. Louise was reluctant, given her own misfortune, having been kicked by a patient at work. She was only minimally restricted by her neck brace, but with further testing forthcoming and other joint pain she was experiencing, she couldn't commit to anything. Louise rode along with Tabea - who was unsurprisingly hysterical after her last ambulance ride ended in a crash, severely injuring her back, neck and arms, which had previously been unharmed.

After arriving, Louise saw to it that Tabea would be admitted and, once she was being processed and moved to a room, went to check on Iris before she had to go to imaging and have her own MRI.

Iris had come to and was being administered pain medication but was still in visibly severe discomfort. Her head and neck were immobilized in an extraction collar with a Velcro strap across her forehead temporarily. Her arms and hands were splinted from each elbow to the tips of her fingers as they awaited X-ray results to confirm what they could tell were many open fractures of the radii, ulnas, metacarpals and phalanges. As Iris was in no mood to visit and there was nothing for her to do, she went to radiology for her appointment.

Iris' treatment was achieved with good old fashioned plaster. The doctors prescribed a Minerva double shoulder spica cast and the nurses and technicians applied it to the exact specifications of the order. Her right arm was held away from her torso at shoulder height and supported by a plaster-covered dowel rod to strengthen the cast and provide reinforcement for the heavy weight. Similarly, a bar was used for her left arm, though its position was roughly halfway between her side and shoulder height. Each arm cast extended to the tips of her fingers and thumb because of the many fractured fingers and hand bones she suffered by trying to brace herself when falling down the stairs and colliding into the wall. The base of the cast ringed her waist and followed the countries of her midsection and chest perfectly, then transitioned to encase her head. A hole was cut out for emergency tracheotomy access then the opening for her face was shaped for her comfort but to maintain stability of her neck. Iris' ears were covered, but parts of her cheeks were left exposed to make eating and speaking easier. With her chestnut brown hair flowing freely from the back of her head, she laid back reflecting on the previous events leading up to their current states. Laying back was all that she could manage with everything above her waist (except her face) casted in thick, heavy plaster. The Minerva double shoulder spica with thumb and finger spicas left her totally helpless and unable to move and spent her time tearfully reflecting for the next few months.

Iris' testing and imaging results had been predictable, but what the doctors found in Louise's MRI was startling. These showed concerning loss of integrity in connective tissues they'd need to perform further testing on. More immediately, they'd be reducing and immobilizing fractures to her cervical vertebrae and mandible that had not been detected the previous session due to swelling of her face and inflammation in her neck.

Louise's treatment would be achieved by introducing a halo brace to immobilize her cervical spine and she would remain in the foam collar to support her jaw along with a van Beek appliance. Without her sisters able to care for her, she'd be admitted to the hospital as well but couldn't be with either of her sisters due to hospital policy on staff members. That left Tabea as the only sister to avoid further injury or immobilization. She did however, lose her temper yet again when she, too, was admitted to the hospital. She has to have a roommate in the orthopedic post operative wing and it's the woman she hates more than anyone in the world - Pascale.

The day at the hospital was probably the worst in the memory of each of the three sisters.
