Description

Today, with coffee and two different versions of the same color by the same manufacturer.

I'm currently going through and testing all of my ultramarine blues to see which one I want for a new basic limited palette I'm building. My goal is a three-color palette of lightfast colors that can achieve a wide range of mixes.

The left side of the sketch was painted with Ultramarine finest while the right side was done with french ultramarine.

The french ultramarine granulates a lot more than the finest and seems slightly darker and more biased towards violet.

While the granulation is fascinating, I feel the less granulating blue makes for a better baseline, so out of the two, finest would probably go on the palette.
