............................................................
A young couple went out West to seek their fortune with nothing but a single trusty hound and the clothes on their backs. By the time they got there though, the opportunities had all but dried up. Wealthy ranchers had claimed all the good land, and, in the towns, new businesses had to answer to both the greedy banks and to the local crime boss.

Desperate, the couple turned to a life of crime. They've attempted to steal a cart loaded with barrels of whiskey. But, misfortune has struck, and the horse has broken free, leaving them stranded in a field as a posse approaches. Now they must prepare to defend themselves.

They are about to learn the hard lesson that, in life, the poor rarely get away with stealing from the rich. For the owner of the saloon to which the barrels were intended, is, in fact, the local racketeer. He and his men will show these whisky thieves little mercy.

Note this scene uses purchased content. The people and dog were posed in poser then imported into Vue where the rest of the scene was constructed. Final rendering was done in Vue and took about 4 days on an Intel I5 2.8 GHz with 8 GB of RAM. Post production was also done in GIMP.

Nice! I rarely see this sort of thing in 3D art! I see this was done in Poser and Vue, but Ive downloaded DAZ 3D and bryce (for free) but haven't yet learned how to use them yet. Did you model the guns yourself or did you get them from a third party vendor?

Thanks!

There is nothing I modeled myself in this particular image. The guns are third party. There are tons out there on daz3d.com, and, generally, I only model something if I can't find an adequate model for sale somewhere (or the model is too expensive).

It seems buying all this stuff would get expensive, or is it very difficult and impractical to make your own clothes and props?

I actually don't spend that much, no more than 15-20 bucks a month. Though I have been doing this for a very long time, so things have built up over the years. I do model my own stuff too, but it can be very time consuming. In fact, I probably spend more time in sculpting programs like Sculptris and ZBrush than I do in Poser, but I still output 20x more images using third party models, just because it is so much faster.

I see. I know blender is a free program, but I've heard its difficult to learn how to use. Sketchup is easy, but only for certain things, not for modelling people or clothes and has only its own file format. The real nut I want to crack is to be able to make my own clothes for my models, such as shirts and pants and shoes.

Blender is a bit hard to learn, but so is any 3d modeling app that is any good. I used it for years. It gives you a great understanding of what underlies 3d art.

I guess once I get the ropes in DAZ 4.5 and Bryce 7, I guess I'll just have to bite my lip and learn blender

Great scene! Love the theme, the landscape ,lighting, use of dynamic cloth and the Springfield rifle. One tip: I think her trigger hand is bent too much, I know, this is really difficultto get right.

Not sure I'd be up on the top of the wagon like that, it's a good vantage point but also seems like a big target Style makes me think of those Renaissance paintings where everything is so theatrical and stylised. Interesting. Also I've always wondered how people dual wield guns, which could just be because I'd have trouble enough with one
