ie. historically, it was common to carry a dagger in the other hand, usually used for attacks, as the sword was to block...

i did olympic fencing for a couple of years.

well, my knowledge is a bit mix and match...i've learned to use sabre, rapier, foil, katana, broad sword, switch blade, butterfly knife, ect...
Olympic style.

i did 1 competition, just to see what it was like
but i took classes for 3 years in high school. Prefered weapons: sword and fleuret.
while doing martial arts, i learned the basic of kendo and katana cutting, sai, and other oriental weapons. i am by no means a master.
