LOL I love all the processes you have up. I like seeing things step by step. Hmmm if it works, you can't use anything too much XD

I mean, some say rulers and erasers are crutches, but the artist of whom I get my first book, Barrington Barber, said nothing is a crutch. They are simply tools the artist uses.

A crutch Pppffff DX... I think its all a matter of opinion... and when it comes to art, its the artist's opinion that matters most ;3

As long as you aren't in danger of 'no longer' having the ruler or the eraser--last time I looked they were still makin' 'em--it's perfect acceptable. A ex-friend, who seem to be pretty snobbish when it came to art, went by the never erase thing. Some asshole art teacher--in my opinion anyway--forced her and other students to never use the eraser. I only had elementary art class--never went to college--and thankfully was never forced to stifle myself or to eschew a tool. I seem to recall even then I was very good at copying artwork I saw; I did a big posterboard drawing of the SDF-1, which is a big ship in the anime Robotech world. I also did the statue of liberty from the back of a cereal box. I don't recall anything else other than ash trays made of clay lol. I don't cry over spilt milk, but I wonder how good I would have been if I'd been encouraged to do it every day from such a young age. I didn't start seriously doing art until about 15 months ago. I was always 'writer boy.'

I think we all start out copying our favorite artists... I mean, look at all the Michael Turner copycats out there. BUT, having said that, I see a lot of people who have improved on his style, so in a sense, they create their own style from his and so its no longer copying. I use tutorials to sharpen the stuff I figured out on my own, but if I hadn't given myself the freedom of trying unconventional things, I'd have been miserable. I think art is up to the artist and learning it up to the artist as well. Do what feels good and what works for you :3
