Description I drew most of the lineart for this last year and then forgot about it until a few weeks ago. I’m not entirely happy with it (Shinigami robes are hard to draw- too much fabric!) but I wanted to experiment with snowflake effects so I felt like this was a good project for it.

Also, oh my gosh, there is a lot more to drawing a sword than I ever expected! I think I used ten different reference guides and I probably still messed up on some minute detail! I am thoroughly confused (albeit awed) by anyone who draws weaponry for fun.

Oh it's so pretty, very graceful... ^_^ Which Rukia's Zanpakutō is so beautiful and simplicity is the best way to go sometimes lols I love how you've done the picture, though it does kind of hurt my neck to look at it... But I love how you've done her Zanpakutō. And yes clothing can be a big hassle to draw, especially when there's a lot of detail involved... I would hate to draw Shunsui Kyōraku's outfit and have to rush it for a deadline or something... But the picture is very elegant and graceful in how it's presented ^_^
And as for the snowflake effect it's very enchanting.. and if people can't tell what they are supposed to be they do remind me of lost souls, the whole picture just has an ethereal quality to it.

Hi! Thank you so much for your sweet comments- I appreciate it! ^_^

=though it does kind of hurt my neck to look at it... =

Your neck?

Yes! The amount of detail in Shunsui's design intimidates me like no other character (which is why I haven't drawn him, yet). Plus, even though he's a hairy, manly-man, I'm worried I'll somehow make him look too effeminate with all the pink and flowers; I need to practice drawing guys more often...

Thank you again! Merry Christmas!

Oh you're welcome ^_^ I really love the picture of Rukia, I think it's wonderfully done.

And the thing about it hurting my neck to look at it is in reference of how it looks to me how her neck is bent, it looks like it is bent a little to far to be comfortable, just a tad off anatomy wise, like it wouldn't be a natural position to want to be held for long you know? Just looks a little bit to much bent back on itself is all... I don't mean to say anything negative about your picture... just critique wise I guess... But altogether the picture is very nice ^_^

And Shunsui does have many details to deal with, I can only imagine how big of a headache he would give me if I were to draw his likeness.... And I wouldn't worry about making him look to very much effeminate.. It's not about what he wears so much as how his bone structure is represented and the details of his person, simply because though he does wear "flowery and pink clothes" you still see that his musculature and body build is ever so male lols...And that's not to say that were you to draw an effeminate man that his physical looks would be all "soft and rounded", but that it's a part of who the character you are drawing is and how you get them to come across on paper... I don't mean to sound pervy... but that's the most un-vulgar way I seemed to be able to phrase that at the moment... And it also comes down to how you can get his emotions, whatever they may be for your particular piece of art, to convey on paper... for that is really a bigger part rather than the body build and so forth, for you can have a character who is very slight of frame... like Toshiro for example, and yet he doesn't come off at all as effeminate, and then you could take Gin or Kira on the other hand and depending on how you were to convey their emotions it's easy to see how they could be viewed as very effeminate men...

I'm sorry for rambling ^^"

And a Very Merry Christmas to you also!!!

Thank you for the constructive crit on Rukia's neck- I appreciate it! As part of my New Year's resolutions list, I've decided that I really need to put some effort into the study of proper anatomy (I'm totally faking any 'knowledge' I currently have... ~_^). Critiques like this can only help!

As for Shunsui's masculinity, I think I forgot to mention in the last post that I have a tendency to MAKE guys look effeminate (unintentionally) through their body language. That's why the pink and flowers would only add to the illusion.

So, in addition to anatomy, I think I'll also have to start studying guys (in a completely artistic way, of course).

Thanks again! ^_^

You're very welcome ^_^ I'm glad that you didn't get upset when I gave my opinion... I know of some people who ask for critiques, and then when people give honest opinions in an actual critique, they come back with mean responses and negative feelings about the persons thoughts...
I've had that happen to me before, and in real life I'm rather brash and blunt in my ways, but I censure myself very hardly when online simply because I don't wish to be thought of as rude and crass by people who don't know me, though I may be it does not effect the critiques or comments I leave... It irks me when people come back and are rude to a commenter/critiquer when their opinions have been openly asked for.

And I would love to see you draw Shunsui, I have every faith that you could make him look masculine without to very much trouble... and anatomy insofar as drawing people and positions, it does take some doing, I've seen some truly deformed looking pictures of characters... they seemed to have extra muscle groups and abnormally long bones lols

I wish you the best of luck in learning to draw manly men!

And Have a Very Merry Christmas Dalliann!

Thank you so much for the nice comments and the fave- they are much appreciated! ^_^

I've heard that the hardest part of cosplaying Rukia is dealing with the wig; it's supposed to be very itchy with that stray lock of hair between the eyes. ~_^ Good luck with your cosplay- that'll be so much fun!

yea i think so...
I already got a wig (an old pocahontas one orginally),
the next day i purchased soem hair gel and tried it myself.. gah.....
but my mother knows someone who is hairdresser so i hope i get that job done...well.
Its my very first cosplay, i've got a shinigami uniform already but my biggest problem would be the katana....
have you cosplayed ever?

Some of the references I found for Rukia's sword were actually found here on DeviantArt- I think there was also a tutorial or two in there about making one, if I remember correctly. It might help with your cosplay.

I've only cosplayed a couple times but they were pretty simple costumes- like Dorothy Wainright from Big O. Black dress, white frilly collar. Now I wear it to work occasionally...

hm, i dont know the girl you cosplayed - do you work in a cafe or something like that ?

one of my school friends, ~o0sahira-chan0o on DeviantArt (who bought me to bleach at least and has amazing drawing skills!) will cosplay matsumoto rangiku and together with a feeew may others we destabilize the LBM next year! yay!

ps: ill better buy a katana somewhere... because i want one with a metal blade, sode no shirayuki shikai is best.
the problem is: my parents, especially my mother. Jeez.

Hehe! ^_^ No, I work in an office. My Dorothy costume is very 'sensible' looking- sort of like a 1940's secretary. Nobody at the office even knows it's a costume...

Your cosplay group sounds like so much fun! It'll be nice to have a whole group playing along. ^_^

yea, added to her (matsumoto) there are nanao Ise, Hisana Kuchiki (my neesan XDXDXD), soifon, Misa amane from death note and near from DN too, but im on the opinion tyki from d. gray man suits her better!
and a girl i quite get often enerved of... shes not sure about shes cospalying, but ill think she should take her choice on kari from naruto...

Next year will be funny....XDXDXD
on the second day i swich to orihime, because really, i look more like her.
