Day 16 of the 31 Days of Halloween

One of the things Edgar Allan Poe is known for is being able to make something as scary as horror get some elements of an action movie genre in later readings.

Case in point is The Pit and the Pendulum aka the action movie of Edgar Allan Poe.

So, for those who don't know, the story is set during the Spanish Inquisition where the narrator, who I'm going to call for purposes Fred, is found guilty of a crime so he is put into a dungeon cell where it's dark and after passing out a bunch of times, he finds a pit that is very deep and scary and the second time when he wakes up he's trapped on a strap where only his arm is loose, a piece of meat is on the ground, the ground is covered in rats and there's a giant pendulum swinging from the ceiling. Will Fred escape...or will he die?

Listening to the audio of this on Youtube, I found a LOT of dark imagry in my head and the fact that you are trapped in a dungeon cell where you could die in any way...is actually scarier than one could think.

Personally, I could see where a lot of people got some inspirations for some of their action movies like the James Bond series.

So, for this crossover, if the Simpsons had done The Raven, I think that it would be funny if Futurama did an episode similar to Treehouse of Horror, but used The Pit and the Pendulum instead where Fry would be Fred and he'd have to find a way out of the dungeon. And also Keith David would be narrating it in a similar manner to James Earl Jones' narrating The Raven.
