Description

‘Diagnostics at 75% No damage or anomalies detected.’

“If you are a Bounty Hunter for long enough, there is a high chance that at some point you’ll end up with some kind of cybernetics, either voluntarily or not.

Not long after I became a rookie hunter, I lost my right eye, I was careless in the midst of a firefight and I paid the price when an explosive shell grazed my face. In time, with medical treatment and my reptilian regeneration, the damage to my face healed, but my eyes didn’t, so I replaced it. I started out with a simple optical implant, granting normal vision, night vision, and infrared, which proved quite useful. In time I upgraded it to include ultraviolet, targeting systems, and neural uplink to not only my other cybernetics, but my ship and armors.

Fairly early in my career I elected to replace my claws with simple cyber-metal ones, to ensure I was never truly unarmed, and in time I upgraded them to electro-static claws for even more of an edge, literally.

Lastly, several years into hunting the group I was running with ended up tangling with a self-proclaimed ‘pirate lord’, in possession of some experimental technology. Needless to say, he did not go down easy, and during the fight I was pretty badly injured, but as he drew his last breath, with my claws buried in his chest, his broken armor liquefied and flowed up over me. It was a form of symbiotic bio-alloy nano-metal, it healed my injuries and bonded to my spinal column forming into plates all along my back, and halfway down my tail. In time I managed study and unravel the secrets of this bio-metal, refining and upgrading it to not only provide protection, but enhancing my strength and endurance and greatly boosting my natural regeneration, when needed. Plus, it’s nice not having to worry so much about being shot in the back.”

So, of course, in a futuristic scf-fi setting cybernetics were available in the game, to varying degrees. He started off with the cybernetic eye, which was part of his backstory, and the backplates were one of those things that came later in the game, but remained something of a mystery, even until the end, but I figured eventually he would have figured them out completely. The claws are a bit more interesting to note, these were something of a ‘gimme’ from the DM earlier on in the game, one of those things that was available at a surprisingly low-price cause it was clear the DM wanted the character to have them. However, the cyber-claws Grimlock had in the game were more like Wolverine’s blades, cause the DM was a big Marvel comics fan at the time, which bled heavily into the game. At the time I thought it would be better to replace his natural claws instead, I mean, he already had them, why not make them better? But the DM wouldn’t go for it, and while I admit that the claws proved very useful in the game, I always felt like it was a missed opportunity, so I figured why not retcon things a little with these pictures, and make them the way I felt they should have been? .

So, cybernetics need to be maintained, and what better time to not only get a good look at them, but to catch a glimpse of Grimlock without his armor and flak jacket on. As this picture shows, beneath the armor and weapons he is pretty darn buff, and from the muscles on his arms you definitely don’t wanna mess with him, even without his weapons. It’s great to finally get a good look at his back and tail plates, beyond the reference sheet, as well as his mock ‘batman’ boxer shorts. I love the way his hair looks in this picture, and the glowing cords connected to his cybernetics are a great touch, as are the diagnostic screens and console, and the way the light from them shines off the edges of his arms, face, hair and jacket. So a rare non-action picture of him to allow for some good background and lore-building. .

Excellent work, Sho, thank you very much.
