Description Valyn Star

Real Name: Saravis Daefal

Known Aliases: Sara Bright

Occupation: Imperial Princess or Personal Assistant, depending on the time of day

Place of Birth: The planet Tal'Thar, Throne World of the Tal'Tharan Empire

Marital Status: Single

Sexual Preference: Bi-Sexual, information given second hand by Imperia Solaris

Known Allies: None

Known Associates: The Cassandra Network

Group Affiliations: The Cassandra Network, the Tal'tharan Royal family

Inspired by: Phoenix / Dark Phoenix

History:

The Tal'Tharan Empire is the dominant force in the Hacetar cluster , a star empire spanning several hundred "First Worlds" in the inner Milky Way galaxy. A Tyrannical Matriarchy, all positions of power and all military forces of the Empire are female, with the men being reduced to subservient roles, and used most often as breeding stock. The Tal'Tharan Expansions seek to export this form of government to other worlds, but while technically the Tal'Tharans view all women as equal, they have an inbred sense of their own superiority and tend to treat the females of other races as lesser beings, somewhere between themselves and all males whom they view with contempt.

Tal'Tharan arrogance is more than cultural however, the women of Tal'Thar may be the most powerful sentient beings in the Milky Way. All of them are born with the innate ability to channel Naryia which, they claim, is nothing less than the sum total of the female energy of creation. When coupled with the high science of their battle armor, this makes a single Tal'Tharan practically unstoppable, and makes a cadre of twelve capable of subjugating an entire world unless that world possesses incredible technology or a large population of powerful Enhanced of their own.

Such was the danger posed by the Expansions, that the rest of the galaxy came together and the Imperia Legion was founded, in response to the Tal'Tharan threat. The members of the Legion, and the Dehnorians in particular, possess the power to confront a Tal'Tharan in full panoply, though several Dehnorians are required to insure even the slightest chance of victory.ย

The last Tal'Tharan Expansion was halted some 2000 years ago by the combined efforts of The Galactic Benevolence Council, the Imperia Legion and the military might of several other major galactic powers. Since then there has been an uneasy truce between the Imperial Throne and the rest of the galaxy.

Saravis was born the eldest daughter of Empress Vurantis Daefal, and was at one time the heir to the throne of the Tal'tharan Empire. No one is certain why she was sent into exile on earth, and Saravis refuses to speak about it. All that Saravis will reveal is that her starship arrived in the solar system sometime in 2009. After passing through the Commonwealth cordon set up between Neptune and Pluto, she traveled toward Earth at sublight speeds. Arriving in orbit on December 31st 2009, she prepared to descend to the planet below and begin her exile amongst a people she considered little better than primitive savages.

Before she could safely disembark, she was attacked onboard by an assailant or assailants unknown, and her ship was sabotaged. Escaping the assassination attempt, Saravis was forced to flee before her ship self destructed. Less than a third of her cargo containers had been sent down to the surface, and her panoply was not amongst them. Alone on a strange world and without her armor, Saravis traveled to Verdant City to meet with Cassandra, with whom she was to work to redeem herself. The princess was not impressed to find that her civilian alter ego would be working as a personal assistant in a small law firm, the assistant to a man!

In her role as a member of the Cassandra Network, Saravis took the name Valyn Star. The name was drawn both from her people's past and her prized possession. The Valyn were a mythical order, shrouded in mystery and long since extinct. Legends about them claimed that the Valyn had both male and female members and that the men were considered equal to women. Such a position is considered heresy in the Empire, and Saravis may have taken the name out of spite, to anger her mother. The Star comes from Iliandria, the Guardian Star gem that Valyn wears on her belt. Containing the consciousness of a loyal member of the Imperial Guard, the Guardian Star is Valyn's mentor and perhaps her only friend as Valyn's relationships with anyone else are marred by her sense of superiority over, and contempt of, lesser beings.

Cassandra uses Valyn sparingly. There are not many threats that Alpha team cannot handle without her and since the princess is extremely difficult to work with and is generally despised by her colleagues as much as she despises them Cassandra only calls on Valyn in times of real emergency. Cassandra is also concerned that with more exposure, Valyn's greatest weakness will be revealed to the world, and the head of the Network isn't willing to risk that happening unless there is no other option.

Arrogant, aloof, and incredibly powerful, Valyn is the Network's final card, thrown in when the situation is desperate but otherwise left to her own devices.

Powers and Abilities:

As a member of the Tal'Tharan royal family, Valyn is the product of millennia of selective breeding and advanced genetic manipulation. Even without access to Naryia, Valyn is many times stronger and faster than any normal human.

The princess also possesses incredible endurance and durability, able to soak up punishment that would cripple a normal person.

If Valyn is channeling Naryia, she is nigh unstoppable. The abilities below represent Valyn's potential once fully infused with the energy of Naryia

Super Strength: The limit of Valyn's strength has not been ascertained as she is currently able to out lift any machine or test developed. The speculation is that she can lift any object that won't fall apart under the stress of its own weight.

Super Speed: Valyn is capable of air speeds exceeding the High Hypersonic ranges, though due to the potential damage, she normally restrains herself to speeds of less than 10k mph in an atmosphere. Her maximum speed outside of an atmosphere is unknown.

Invulnerability: Apart from her natural durability, when infused with Naryia Valyn projects an energy field around herself that makes her practically invulnerable to all physical and energy attacks, and the impact forces of contact with another object at Hypersonic speeds. This field can be extended around team mates to protect them and even objects to help hold them together when Valyn lifts them.

Energy projection: Valyn can project beams of energy from her hands or eyes that carry immense destructive potential, but doing so for extended periods reduces her available energy rapidly.

Energy Enhancement: Valyn can infuse her female team mates with Naryia, boosting their abilities for a short time or aiding them in rapid recovery from fatigue or injury.

Weaknesses:

While highly resistant to drugs and toxins due to her natural endurance, Valyn does not enjoy Alchemica's total immunity to them and a long enough exposure to them or a drug of sufficient strength can render her unconscious or harm her.

Valyn is also vulnerable to psychic attacks, and magic. The Tal'Tharan race despise magic, considering it an abuse of Naryia, resenting and fearing those who can wield it with sufficient power to threaten them.

Extremely powerful energy and physical attacks can harm Valyn, but no foe she has faced with the exception of the Blood Wraith Relentless has so far proven capable of harming her in this way.

Finally, Valyn's greatest weakness is to her own kind. Naryia, the female energy of creation, resides within all women everywhere to a greater or lesser degree. Valyn's Naryia enhanced invulnerability is not effective against other women. Neither can she use it to enhance her strength to harm them directly. When faced with female foes Valyn must keep her distance or she is forced to rely on her native strength and endurance only.

She looks nice, although a little bit arrogant. A powerful, gorgeous alien princess! With a particular weakness against female opponents and magic. Interesting!

Respectfully Bob my friend... not to me. Without a compelling driver, I don't see someone who isn't aware of Valyn's weakness going up against the equivalent of Marvel's Phoenix at full power just to get their hand into her pants...

That doesn't work for me personally... from the pov of the villain character, the rewards simply don't justify that level of risk. It couldbe equated to me getting into the ring with Ronda Rousey , holding a jar of peanut butter, hoping that not only is she allergic but that there isn't an epi pen anywhere in the neighbourhood so I can potentially cop a feel

That is fine for those universes where fetish is the main aim and showing any respect for a heroine's abilities gets you stood in a corner wearing the pink garlanded pointy hat of shame

The heroines being heroic is the main point of my universe. I think I have mentioned this already.

Yes, I know. You have mentioned this before, and I have said that I share this way of thinking even if I sometimes prefer naughtier stories, and even if a heroine gets defeated and seduced, the villainess could still show some respect or even fondness for her. I just mentioned that it would be nice for me, I'm not saying that it needs to happen or that it should happen. I just, liked your heroine and thought that this might be an interesting scenario, but having such an overpowered heroine for more serious stories with action and fighting makes sense, and it's totally okay.

We could debate overpowered all day ๐Ÿ˜Š

She is extremely powerful on any scale, but compared to say Serena, Valyn's weakness makes her far more vulnerable

It is a fairly strict limiting factor on her which is why Cassie holds her in reserve

It's a good idea to hold your strongest weapon for special situations. Well, Supergirl needs to have kryptonite or Wonder Woman should be unable to escape her own lasso, otherwise it would be pretty hard to stop these kind of heroines. As long as those kind of things are not overused, like a random thug having kryptonite and turning Supergirl into a weak plaything, for example.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

devduck01 In reply to bob-warden [2018-12-13 13:34:15 +0000 UTC]

Agreed... but villains also need their kryptonite

I think this can be said for most overpowered characters, in general.

bob-warden In reply to devduck01 [2018-12-13 20:11:47 +0000 UTC]

I don't think she needs one. Serena may be a powerful witch, but I don't think she is overpowered. She doesn't have the kind of magic to control time or reality, create powerful illusions, or being invulnerable to damage. Like Superman who every time he becomes evil he rules the world with barely any opposition. Yeah, she is powerful, resourceful and sometimes even unpredictable, but she can be defeated. Let's not forget that En-Trance is still immune to her seduction magic, even if she isn't immune to her touch.ย ย

devduck01 In reply to bob-warden [2018-12-13 21:02:33 +0000 UTC]

You seem to think that is a good thing

You have given Serena a vast array of powers to insure she can pretty much take out any heroine. That is cool, you like those kind of stories...but it doesn't mean she is over powered.

Here is a test

Valyn can be defeated by 50% of the planet, with a low probability for a normal women rising higher and higher until say Spider Woman would have little trouble

Trance can be gagged or drugged

Alchemica can be physically over powered or defeated by magic

Cassie can be drugged

Semper is a normal woman in body armor with guns...any thing that effects a normal woman effects her.

For powerful heroines, those are fairly reasonable paths to defeat

What would be a reasonable path for a heroine to defeat Serena once Serena began her ambush?ย

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

bob-warden In reply to devduck01 [2018-12-13 21:47:16 +0000 UTC]

It depends on the situation and the heroine. If she manages to use her draining magic and seduction magic, weakening and stimulating a heroine then she pretty much has her. But if the heroine has some backup and Serena is focused on her, then her partner could take her out if she is stealthy or fast enough. Stronger heroines take longer to weaken, so they could still land a hard strike and knock Serena out. If a heroine has another resistance, like En-Trance she could still turn things around. If Serena tried her seduction magic and it wasn't effective she would be surprised, and En-Trance could take her out. If Serena overcame her surprise fast enough, or managed to withstand En-Trance's blows, she could turn things around. Nephila also defeated Serena by using her powers on Serena when she didn't expect it and she could do it again if she managed to ambush her, and Ariadne defeated her because Serena underestimated her and dropped her guard and Ariadne still had some powers left. Maybe there is no direct way to defeat Serena, no kryptonite of sorts, but there are situations that she can be defeated, if she makes a mistake or her opponent is smarter or even stronger. Again, it's not like she can use really powerful forms of magic like time freeze or unbreakable illusions. She may be powerful but she has her limits.

She took out SG pretty easily and I believe you said she would just teleport about and use her energy drain in your note

My point is this, I am not saying that you ever have to write a story where Serena loses, but the more hoops a heroine has to jump through to win, the more specific the circumstances have to be, the more she slides along the scale toward OP

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

bob-warden In reply to devduck01 [2018-12-13 22:29:42 +0000 UTC]

Maybe you have a point, maybe Serena is a little too strong. Magic can be quite powerful, after all. But she is not the only one, Black Mass for example has defeated pretty much every heroine she has met with little trouble.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

devduck01 In reply to bob-warden [2018-12-13 22:40:41 +0000 UTC]

At the end of the day, you should really write the stories you want to read.

But like I said, you never have to write a story where Serena loses...but just the possibility she could might make the story even more exciting.

All stories endings are pretty much pre-ordained in that the writer knows what it is.ย

But when the winning character shares that confidence and all events go in their favor it can just be a little too on the nose for me...but I will readily admit I would find myself vastly outnumbered in that opinion.

There are many paths to the preferred outcome, that is what is great about storytelling. I personally tend to prefer those where the outcome isn't so obvious or a victory requires some effort.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

bob-warden In reply to devduck01 [2018-12-13 23:08:59 +0000 UTC]

Indeed and again, it depends on kind of the story. Whether it is more action focused, more romantic or more erotic, or maybe it's just an event with heroines chilling in their everyday life and there's not even any conflict. Besides, I think I mentioned that the idea I might have for an encounter with Serena and En-Trance might not even have any fighting between them.

devduck01 In reply to bob-warden [2018-12-14 07:50:20 +0000 UTC]

I still haven't thought about something particular, other than Serena helping En-Trance out of a tight spot again. Is there no way for En-Trance to consider spending a night with Serena, without Serena resorting to capturing her?

devduck01 In reply to LDivi [2018-12-08 12:23:51 +0000 UTC]

It is...

I created Valyn at the very beginning ...pre-page so to speak.

Back then, I was planning on telling...how would I say it best...SHiP stories representative of the general trends in the genre.

Pretty soon after starting the page however, my tabletop GM story telling instincts hijacked the project and I went down a different route but keeping the peril and erotic material as one of the strong sub threads.

Valyn..renamed and re-imagined, came back into the mix pretty quickly.

I decided to expand her background but keep the weakness and see if I could make it work as a "kryptonite" type weakness.

Excellent bio on Valyn you have given us buddy, from her back ground she could almost have been a force of evil instead of a force of good. I noticed the disparity between fighting ability and agility in relation to her strength and stamina that she is much more suited to a role asย  the Hulk to have than Superman, despite her ability to fire energy beams from her eyes and hands. I would imagine she would be more inclined to rush in and pummel/demolish a threat than to hold back a moment and access the tactical situation first. While that would certainly be useful at times, it could also be used against her and her team if properly exploited.ย

One of these days I would love to see her open up and reveal the reason of her exile.

The artwork by hulkdaddyg is pretty awesome as well.

You are right, though you would have to take into account the scale, most normal people would be a 2 or a 3

Valyn is a pummeler, given her people have never met a foe they couldn't simply just pound senseless, any real finesse has vanished from their fighting philosophy
