Description Beautiful Persian eunuch Bagoas, most beloved of Alexander the Great. According to Pierre Briant (French Iranologist, Professor of History and Civilisation of the Achaemenid World and the Empire of Alexander the Great) Bagoas was the shadow ruler of Asia, he had power and greatly influenced Alexander the Great.
This is not surprising, since many great eunuchs had power and were secret rulers. Anyway, Bagoas was a mysterious person whose identity is yet to be revealed.

Bagoas looks so gorgeous here.  I can't help but notice that the ring of light around the moon makes it look like Bagoas has a heavenly halo.

Awesome drawing and interesting bit of backstory.  I love the pervasive feminine themes with the moon and rose

Thank you!) There are a lot of interesting, but almost forgotten things in history. For example, eunuchs; their beauty, power, talent or influence on events in world history.
People know them only as harem servants; fat, ugly and with squeaky voices, eunuchs do not cause any interest. However, all these are stupid stereotypes.
In historical records the eunuchs were described as the most valuable and beautiful, they were more beautiful than ordinary men and women, and therefore they had a great price. But now people think that in ancient time women were the most valuable and beautiful, that women-slaves were bought at the highest price. But this is another myth created by improbable novels and movies.

Also, many eunuchs were far from harems, or rather, all the famous and great eunuchs had nothing to do with the harem at all. The largest number of eunuchs was in Byzantium, but in Byzantium there are no harems.
The eunuchs served the emperor, or in church, or as art people, military men and many others. They were glorified, great, and their beauty is comparable with the angels.

Fascinating stuff and all quite true! Castration was in many cases self imposed as a sign of dedication to a family or god. One need only consider the cult of Attys

Thanks! Yes, he is more beautiful than rose and moon... If Alexander conquered people with sword and fire, then Bagoas conquered people with his beauty and a gaze of wise and hypnotic eyes

Beauty of the rose you eclipse,
Every bud quietly away slips.
How can the rose compete with you?
Rose shines in moonlight, moon in your grips.

He certainly conquered and enchanted me with those beautiful eyes.

And that poem is so perfect for him. The rose and the moon only accent his beauty even further~

You're always welcome!

I love how he looks so somber and melancholy, and yet still super beautiful!
This actually reminds me of a Byzantium icon in many ways (mostly due the pose and framing)
I always get super excited whenever you upload new work!

Yes, there is something Byzantine here... I think, he will be more beautiful than rose and moon... If Alexander conquered people with sword and fire, then Bagoas conquered people with his beauty and a gaze of wise and hypnotic eyes.

(English)
Beauty of the rose you eclipse,
Every bud quietly away slips.
How can the rose compete with you?
Rose shines in moonlight, moon in your grips.

-Persian poem of Hafiz Shirazi

This poem very suitable to Bagoas!
