Metaphorically, a swirling pool of energy in your body. Each one deals with a different sort of energy (love, for example) and each one is blocked by something. (love is blocked by grief, I believe)
The energy flows through the Chakras in a neverending stream, unless they are blocked by things like lies, shame, or fear.
Naturally, not all people believe they exist (or even know about them), as they are more of a spiritual thing than physical. Hope I helped! c:
