In my opinion R & J simply was intense teenage lust. Not love ... it didn't last long enough to form a love bond. I feel Shakespeare (or if you choose to believe another theory the author) was making a dig when writing this but that is just my opinion. When love is real you will know or it will end and you will move on ... worry pas you find someone you know in you heart loves you.

I think, more important than knowing someone cares about you, is, that YOU have to care about yourself.

Romeo didn't care. He was a lust-driven fool, it's not a story about 'star cross lovers' it's a damn story about horny teens that make stupid choices. I'd rather you had a story like Twilight than Romeo & Juliet, at least then your death could take longer, and maybe somewhere down the road you'd realize that the story was stupid, you deserved better, and you could move on with your life instead of giving in to the BS.

>.< I hope you feel better some day.

It's alright, ST. You don't need large declarations of love and murder and suicide to know that someone cares about you.
All you have to do is look them in the eye and take them at their word.
It may feel scary to trust someone like that, and yeah, you might get hurt. But you might not. Love's all about taking a chance.

The sad fact is, Romeo and Juliet isn't a romance. They were teenagers (Juliet was 13, Romeo 16) who knew each other for a matter of days, married, then killed themselves over miscommunication. That's just teenage drama. Tragic romances in general aren't fun because while you know that at least someone cared that much, you lose them to something.

Maybe it's not the romance aspect of it ST wants, but to know someone cares enough for them that they'd be willing to die just to be with them.

That's possible. I just kinda get annoyed when people use R&J as an example of such a romance. Nothing wrong with wanting someone who would care/love that much.

How I wish I could like your comment! I don't get why no one can ever understand that the story of Romeo and Juliet wasn't a romance!

Whenever I see Romeo and Juliet comparisons, I'm like, "Have you /read/ it? You know they die, right?"

I guess because at face value that's what it looks like and that's what interpretations such as opera, plays, and Hollywood focus on is the supposed tragic romance between two people from warring families. In the end it's a satire on stupidity. The parents were stupid for keeping at the feud and letting their kin die for reasons no one seemed to know, and Romeo and Juliet were stupid for rushing into marriage when they barely knew one another and then they stupidly died because one message failed to get relayed and they dramatically killed themselves because oh they couldn't bear to be without each other. The final scene pretty much says it all when the parents realize what their stupidity did.
