Maybe it's metiphorical, where the sentences are placed. Notice the "You mean nothing" is above the bench in the light, whereas the "You mean everything to me" is under the bench hiding from the light. Perhaps this could mean that the teller hides their feelings for this person in public, acting as though the person they like is a complete nothing to them, but when the teller is alone, they can express their true feelings instead of feeling as though they need to hide such feelings from other people. It's almost like the teller can't admit their admiration for this person in public or to friends like they are able to admit to themself. Maybe they would be rejected or wouldn't feel as though they fit in if they admitted to the world that they have such feelings for such person?
I had a friend like this, very much so like this, which was why I noticed the placing of the sentences more so than anything else. In fact, I hope the teller is that person, even though I know that it couldn't be.
I hope, even if I overassumed everything, that you will be able to find balance in your life. I wish you the best.

actually, you're very close. there was definitely a sort of "hide the words under the bench" sort of thought in my head...
and yes, she's my best friend, there isn't really the opportunity to say that sort of deep/scary stuff without having her run off scared... she's also a very cold, emotionally damaged person.
thank you for your input, it was wonderful reading your thoughts!
