I hate it when people think goth is the same as sterotypical emo. Most goths don't do it for attention.

I agree with Bitchinblack, and that the stereotypes are often created by people who actually don't know anything about the subject but look at it and go "oh yeah... THOSE people..." x_x

I don't see the wrist thing in the picture though? It just looks like an angel statue to me?

Bitchinblack is right. I have done research too and not that I really want to get in the middle of a fight I agree with bitchinblack. Slitting as it is is a stereo type to emos anyway because you dont have to cut yourself to be emo.

Okay sorry just wanted to ask are these hands in the background that would be better with an EMO not goth....Yes I was a goth not that you could tell.

I know this comment is old, but what the hell are you talking about?

In the background of the picture looks like hands and wrists like they are slit which is more of an EMO thing not a goth thing.

And stereotypes based on false information and dumb assumptions are VERY STUPID. Besides, the "wrist slitting" stereotype was associated with the goth subculture first. Hence, if the purpose of this stamp was to make a jab at that stereotype, then it is perfectly accurate.

Do your research next time.

Not all of us cut. its a stereotypical statement.

Actually I don't need to research anything, I WAS a goth, and the wrist slitting wasn't associated with goths first. Goths was a term used for the weird and strange and unusual for those who didn't really fit in. So don't come to me all high and mighty, and don't YOU assume I don't know anything because I was living that lifestyle a long time ago.

Wrong you fucking dolt. Whatever "lifestyle" you think you were living, I can almost guarantee it had nothing to do with goth (since goth is a bloody lifestyle to begin with).

The Goth subculture grew out of music and fashion, and both of those were inspired by a morose and melancholy view of the world, as
opposed to punk, which wanted to rebel against the world. The part about "bringing like minded people together" came afterwards, when fans of the old school goth bands began to emulate the looks of the bands.

I can act high and mighty all I want, since I'm still part of the subculture AND I've done extensive research (you know, books, magazines, interviews, that kind of research) about the scene and its roots. That research also includes the stigmas and stereotypes associated with the subculture.

So if you want to go at it, be my guest.

GothicRavenMidnight In reply to bitchinblack [2013-08-14 12:17:19 +0000 UTC]

exactly. We live a lifestyle in a Subculture, It started long before the 80s and has nothing to do with punk.

I'm part of the subculture as well and know several of the Gothic Elders.
