it was a long time ago with my 5 megapixel point and shoot - tough to set up, etc on the self portraits. i'll be using my remote on my sunday shoot with a tripod this weekend.

Beautiful !
I was wandering on dA and randomly came here...and I'm glad it happened since your photography, like in this case, really catches me and channel "something" straight into my guts (that is where originally ancient egyptians placed soul, emotions and life in general).

Now I'll be spending some time to watch your gallery in depth.

Take care

Yes . I like this very very much. I like all the little visual elements. How it fades off around the neck. The look, mood, and overall position. The fact the black heart has values and the rest of the face really doesnt. I love the mood and the title sets it off. Its one work to hold hands with so to speak.

Hmm... I'm not sure I've ever had my love not returned. I've had my like not returned, and my infatuation not returned, but, for me, love has almost always been a mutual thing. I feel it takes time for any relationship to grow to the status of love, and usually, for me, if time passes and the early like or infatuation is not returned, it will rarely continue to grow into love. Rather, it will more likely die out.

Those are my thoughts.

Love can be both the best and the worst thing....it all depends on the situation...but if the situation is bad, it always seem to end out better...if it truly love that is.

Great image Mary, I really love the expression. Very emotional piece...incredible!

It's so sad when love goes unreciprocated I felt the same way this week but then I had a really nice convo with my crush So, I guess unreciprocated love can be a mature and sincere notion. Like how you'll be happy just seeing them happy ^_^
Hope she can turn her frown upside down sometime soon.

Helewidis [2004-05-26 17:36:54 +0000 UTC]

answearing to description: it depends. it depends on how you love, what are you loving and why, and what type of love it is. for instance, I love someone that doesn't loves me back, but I don't mind to, because it's rather a platonic love.
but, when I love with full passion and desire, then yes, i want that person to love me back, so we can elevate the love into something more, did I made myself clear? (me no english, sorry i didn't! )

about deviation: it sure has the mood of no returned love. like a letter whe send and it comes back to us. but it can be also like the love that is turned back to us.

off topic: how did you painted the face? with what?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

devilicious In reply to Helewidis [2004-05-26 18:48:57 +0000 UTC]

Which is worse.

Having love that isn't returned, or having love that is.

All depends on the point of view, I guess.

Nice one.

PlumBlossom [2004-05-26 12:47:49 +0000 UTC]

I see..a mime..a broken mime, and, by showing the areas the paint is dabbed, along the collarbone, it gives an impression of naked vulnerability. We are seeing what we aren't supposed to,the places where the gloss of the make-up ends and flesh begins.... Just a thought...

A photo should tell a story, leave the viewer wanting to know more or have their own mind in high gear as it is filled with their own story. This does JUST that. It has a major WOW factor and on the tech side of it all....you did a superb job !

Longing is a terrible feeling; closely coupled with lonliness.

Ah we've all been there, which is why this shot and mood is so identifiable

I love the make up, great idea.

ink-brains2 [2004-05-26 05:56:55 +0000 UTC]

this is a wonderful piece, truly expressive.
the heart written on the face, and the gaze of loneliness hits you with opposing messages at once... like how love is out there and sometimes we don't see it, or that you wear your "love" on your "sleeve" and it is other's that do not see what is so blatantly there.
i understand your message
and the choice of composition and black & white adds a lot more strength to this image
