This is another one of those pieces where I tried to illustrate a character from a story idea I had that just never managed to get written. Very condensed version of the tale...

Idana was been born into a tribe in which both the 7th son of a 7th son, and the 7th daughter of a 7th daughter were considered to have been blessed by the gods. Such children were destined to become great spiritual leaders within their tribes. Idana was considered among her people to be doubly blessed by the gods, for she was the 7th daughter of parents who were in themselves a 7th daughter and a 7th son.

Idana's path in life was clear in the minds of her people....she however had very different ideas. Idana defied tradition and the wishes of her family, chieften and holy leaders by taking up the path of the warrior. Knowing no warrior among her tribe would train her, as it was believed that if a 7th chose a path of violence over a spiritual one, they would bring down a curse upon their people, Idana disguised herself as a young man and began to train with the young men of a neighboring tribe, learning the way of a warrior. When her deception was uncovered Idana was cast out from her people and exiled from their land. by exciling her, the people hoped to avoid the curse they believed she had called down upon them all through her betrayal of her sacred duty. She left her people and wandered the land, once more disguised as a man, and making her living as a guard and guide to travelers, finding teachers to continue her warriors training in the different lands she visited.

Some years later a tale reached Idana of a troubled country far from any of the lands she knew. The tale stated that some 60 years before, the rightful king and all his family had been murdered, and the king's cousin had taken the throne. The man had been a vicious and cruel leader, and now his grandson, a man even more vicious then his father or grandfather before him, stood poised to take the throne. The storyteller said that the people lived in terror, but that they had begun to have hope once more, for strange tales were being whispered on the winds....tales of a prophesy fortelling the return of a true king to the throne, a descendant of the last rightful king, whose line had not been completly extinguished after all. It was said that this young man would return to lead his people, but that the key to his success lay in the hands of a woman. A woman of foreign birth, an outcast from her own land, a wanderer, a warrior....the 7th daughter of a 7th daughter. Only with her help could the rightful king return to claim his throne.

(ok I know it was a crappy attempt to fit what would have been at least 3 short stories worth of plot and character development into a short version,but there it is)
