Description
Old church, in Jim Thorpe.
One of my favorite buildings in town, you know, the church at the end of stone row.
Was re-pointed about 15 years ago. Mistakenly, they used portland cement, to repair a historic stone masonry building, originally built with lime mortar. Hence, you can see the new joints peeling right off, the way they do. A few stones in the wall show stress cracking, quite possibly related to the incorrect pointing mix.
Mind you, I'm only sharing the photo because I like the building and like the photo--but as a stone mason, I can't post an image like this, without saying something.
