As time passes it grows harder and harder for me to write descriptions for these things.....While sketching, I thought it would be funny to stick the Kalmah logo on Rarity's shirt to signify some sort of closet metal obsession. And what do you know, people started telling me that it sounded like a pretty cool idea. So I ran with it. I haven't seen any evidence suggesting that Rarity ISN'T into metal, just saying.....
Making dresses becomes AWESOME when you've got the world's finest melo-death blasting in the background. Not that I would know from experience, of course.....
If you haven't heard of Kalmah, here's an example of their music. Is it too much of a coincidence that Rarity and I have the same pick for favorite bands? Maybe. >_>

Unfavorable qualms against anthropomorphic artwork aside (especially when said set-piece is sexed up as such), this actually is in keeping with a wistful notion of mine that any sentient being capable of any appreciation for good music has the capacity to acquire a taste for metal.
I looked up Kalmah, ('Seventh Swamphony' and 'They Will Return,' respectively), and while I find them agreeable (thanks for indirectly introducing me to them, by the way), I just don't see it as the kind of material that Rarity would ever find purchase with, even if her preferences in music did evolve and expand to include metal. In fact, even as much as I've come to love melodic death metal, I don't think she'd ever come to adore bands like Children of Bodom , Amon Amarth (which I saw at Mayhem on 6/30/2013), or the criminally under-appreciated Fathers of Melodic Death Metal, In Flames (who I've seen twice: 12/13/12 and 2/16/13). Pity, really, because melodic death metal is f cking amazing.
If anything, I'd think Rarity would be more into symphonic metal, like Epica or Widek ; music that combines the pose and elegance of elements from classical with the raw power of metal into something extraordinary. Actually, I think she'd love music like that; it has the depth and intrigue of a expertly written number, but with such might that the weak of heart will fall before it. Such artwork to the ears would be almost overwhelming, but with such intricacies that it bids deeper immersion, opening itself for an almost romantic fascination.
Yep; that definitely sounds like something Rarity would be all over.

This is an incredible drawing. Not only is the shading incredibly detailed, but I can tell that you intentionally made the lighting very realistic and believable.
