Character ~ Wendy

Wendy is a first-tier circus member of the Noah's Arc Circus troupe..

This cosplay was primarily constructed for the Kuroshitsuji - Circus group organised by . She worked tirelessly to organise the shoot and managed to score us a photoshoot session at Circus Olympia in Cranbourne and also rounded up some talented cosplayers and photographers.

Construction: The main fabric used in the construction of this costume was pink cotton and black taffeta to give the costume contrast. The skirt and top was lined with think fabric to give it some strength and stiffness and triple layered in some areas. I designed the skirt to some-what resemble petals of a flower and shaped the taffeta to make it look like the character is always swirling about - like the manga illustrations. This was then attached to the cotton with fabric adhesive to ensure the material was even, didn't fray or bunch up. To give the skirt some boof & 'omphh', I made the petty coat from 2 layers of nylon netting and trimmed it with 50mm and 70mm cambric lace. The frills on the top and shoulders was made from white cotton that I hemmed to stop the edges from unraveling and then straight stitched specific areas so I could pull in the thread to gather the material and give it a frilly look.

The crown (first time making something like this - so I was quite excited to see it actually turn out!) was made with jewelery wire and beaded with a mixture of black pearls and 2 different sized glass facets to give it some sparkle and depth. I then sewed the taffeta into ribbons so I could could attach it to the crown and ultimately my head. Styling of the wig was a bit tricky as I have yet to get myself a model head to sit the wig on whilst I style it! Parts of the crowns ribbon had to go under the wig so I had the fringe section over my face most the time when styling the wig - hmm... lot's of fun XD

Overall I'm quite happy with my Wendy costume - there are still a few things I'd like to do to the costume, wig and make-up to improve the accuracy and aesthetics of it - so you'll probably see an improved version when I wear this to a con at some stage during the year
