Description I love the opening to this episode.
Deviot meets with a creature speaking an alien language. The creature hands him a box, containing some familiar green keycards. As Deviot looks at the cards, the creature prepares to stab him in the back, literally, but Deviot appears to anticipate the attack and kills the creature.
I love the alien speaking another language, or how he (or she or whatever) tries to kill Deviot. It gives an extremely minor character some weight, what is this creature's story? How does he know Deviot? Why does he attempt to kill Deviot? Unfortunately, we'll probably never know.
Up on the Scorpion Stinger, Deviot shows off the keycards to Trakeena. He boasts how he has made them stronger. He inserts the cards into a machine, and brings to life the Psycho Rangers.
A cloaked figure walks over to the remains of Deviot's alien acquaintance, finding the empty box. "I'm too late..." he states.
Back on the Scorpion Stinger, Trakeena is enforcing her control over the Psycho Rangers. They reluctantly agree to follow her orders.
Down on Terra Venture, Maya and Damon are coming home from getting groceries. The Psychos phase through the ground and walls to kidnap them. Meanwhile, Kai and Kendrix are fighting off the blue and Pink Psychos. Leo is off training in the forest, when he hears a child crying. It turns out to be Psycho Red in disguise, which reminds me of how the Putties would occasionally disguise as humans, sometimes even as children. A brief scuffle ensues, before the cloaked figure from before helps Leo escape. He pulls down his hood and reveals, it's Andros! Leo recognizes him. From where, its not clear,Andros wasn't with the other Space Rangers when they morphed in public view. I guess there was probably news coverage later, along with Alpha 6 probably telling Earth what was going on.
Anyway, they head to the Megaship, Mike is there, with Alpha. Alpha is overjoyed to see Andros again. D.E.C.A even pops up again to tell the Rangers about strange signals coming from the Industrial Dome. Andros retrieves his morpher, and with Leo and Mike they go to check things out.
Trakeena is shocked to see two Red Rangers together. She orders the Psychos after them.
On the Megaship, Alpha sees the other Morphers taken...
While Leo and Andros have Trakeena and the Psychos distracted, Mike frees the others. They face down the Psychos, when suddenly they hear a familiar voice. They turn to reveal the Space Rangers! TJ, Cassie, Carlos and Ashley. They do an awesome morph and leap, joining the Galaxy Rangers. I love how the Space theme music seamlessly builds into the Lost Galaxy theme here. The Rangers all battle their Psycho counterparts, and Mike takes on Deviot and Villomax.
The choreography for the fight here is impressive, some of the best by this point.
The Space rangers fire their cannons at the Psychos, and the Galaxy Rangers finish them off with the Lights of Orion.
We get a very brief bit of interaction between the two teams, when we cut back to the earlier battlefield, and see Psycho Pink crawl from the wreckage of her teammates. Deviot returns to carry her back for repairs. The scene of Deviot approaching through the hot smoke is chilling, quite a cool shot there.
There's so much about this one I Iove.
At the beginning, when recieving the cards, Deviot says "good to see you again my friends",did he help create them, or meet them at some point?
While this is a teamup, we don't get much interaction between the two teams. Its a common complaint about modern teamups, how they're just a big fight scene with a line or two of throwaway dialogue for each returning ranger. What sets this one apart is that while much of it is fight scenes, it's part of a stronger story than most modern teamups. It's also a clever chance to tie up loose ends, the Psycho Rangers were never destroyed, just locked away in the keycards. Andros gets sone focus here, Alpha and D.E.C.A get a bit of screentime, and the dialogue from the old rangers doesn't feel forced or overly expository. Plus, we get another episode with the Space rangers next time, and there is alot more interaction between the teams, but I'll talk about that when I get to it. This episode is also a big reason the Psycho Rangers are fan favorites, their roles the previous season were fine, but I don't think they'd be as well remembered if it wasn't for their reappearance here. The only thing really awkward here is the absence of Zhane. I guess he's needed on KO-35? He's never even acknowledged here. If this were to be done today, I wonder if they'd just dub him with someone else.
