I really like this piece too. The surface is interesting, but what are the potentials of carving into it? I know you're into more abstract and geometric forms, but I would love to see what different cuts of this look like, especially with the layering. What exactly is the texture? You said glass...?

yap its glass.

the glass bottles are broken and its shards are stacked on top each other and packed into a ceramic box and fired at 960 oC

the heat fused the shards together but didn't melt them totally into a single glass block, that is why you can still see the gaps in between the glass shards.

I'm currently experiementing with higher temperatures to see what other effects I can achieve.

I'm quite against carving into it, that would make it no different from conventional sculptural techniques like carving, engraving, etc.

I hope to eventually make a really big one...

Thanks for the + fav!!

well, with the carving, i wasn't talking about carving it into something - it should represent itself. However, I would just be curious as to what the inside looks like. I've actually been doing something similar in class with wood - blocks doweled and glued together and then re-cut at different angles. The wood-grain patterns created by the gluing and cutting make some fascinating effects. I may have a picture of that up by tonight. I was just curious if it might be the same way, if not for a piece, but just for artistic curiosity...

Thanks for the friending! Off to sculpture class...

interesting tot! i had a few friends who asked me the same thing, about cutting the block into two to see the cross section.

but it will be tricky... and i think i need a diamond tipped circle saw!!! LOL!

I'm looking forward to seeing your sculpture!!!

+whoa.

*blink*

yes, jade, marble and ice come to mind. i think it is a wonderful avenue to pursue, i'd love to see where this leads as you become more confortable with this and explore its full potential

My friend tried submerging it into water and it looked just that!

Amazing layering, looks almost like a natural formation in ice to me! It's beautiful, looks like it would be very pleasing texture to touch.

Oh yes, the texture is something to feel...it's smooth yet rough... and it's very heavy because it's glass. I think it's about 3 kg.

i really like that at first i thought it was a block of semi polished marble. a realy nice minimal peice but this is even more interesting, i think if you could melt the metals to a more amorphus state that it would take on a more marble/stone feel.

if that is the route you want to take. the texture is amazing the 'graining' is what realy got me.

where would this be displayed?

Hi! Thx for your feedback and suggestions! :-D

This work, being small, is very much suited in an art gallery environment. The method that I used to make it, also restricts its size.

Yes, I'm planning to test this technique at higher temperatures with different types of glass. I have already started tests at higher temperatures and the results are very encouraging.

I will post new versions once they are out!

And yes, the textures on this series of work is amazing!

Thanks again for your feedback

I looked at it few times, and its very interesting one!
I really enjoy it!

yeah it looks like jade.

I think the potential for this sort of work is massive.

actually there was no disaster at all! i have a *secret* technique for this.

And it's basic ceramics!

This work has an interesting story behind it, when we meet, i'll tell u.
