Description Here is a sketch I did that's been posted online (apologies to the owner). This was a quick convention sketch done at San Diego this year, in a Galactus themed sketchbook. Was the first time I've attempted a drawing of this great Kirby creation, and luckily the sketchbook had all the reference I needed from other great artist interpretations...especially since the costume is very daunting to even remember.

I've done so few convention appearances to sketch at, that I'm always a bit gun-shy when I have to sit and "perform". I think there's the ease of working at home with no one around, compared to having to be "on" in front of an audience. Drew this with a Pitt brush pen. And looking at it, there's a lot to be desired. But it's all one long learning and growing experience.

I'd like to do a better one someday. But this'll have to do for now.

Niiiiiice! I dig how your inking is reminiscent of Kirby/Sinnott. Good stuff!

Wow!hahaha man, you need to pencil more stuff like this. You could do a rad throw back issue or arc or even mini series!! I know I'm game to see that kinda stuff happen, I love Bruce Timm (who doesn't) and Darwyn Cook, but you could be on that same level of "golden age styled" guys. And you can write and ink..... I think someday you'll blow past all of us and this quick little sketch is a prophecy in itself my friend!!!

Your dream is my nightmare. Especially when all my pencils revolt against me. Acupuncture by pencil led...not a pretty sight!

Thanks. I think the character requires having an ominous hand reaching out ala Kirby-style. heh

I agree... now all he needs is a little tear running down his face, oh wait... where did that come from?

Good job as always, and well done on the being able to draw in front of a crowd, I know how that can be nerve racking, and I've only done it in front of a few people at a time!

I guess the more I do it, the more I'll get comfortable at it. One of the downsides of living a solitary freelance lifestyle...used to being chained to the table with my own art mistakes instead of people seeing the process as I screw up a perfectly blank piece of paper

You have problems and you draw the way you do. I'll talk to you about it again when I've reached your level

I think all artists are their own worst enemy and critiquers. I know for me, I'm rarely satisfied with anything I draw. I know after I finish a piece and look at it...even see it later online...it's a chance to step back and see it in a different light. And usually...it's not good. Turn that light off!! heh heh

Oh yes I know what you mean Sometimes people tell me somthing looks great and I look and think "it could be better". But I think that's good in that it keeps us trying to be better each time, just as long as we don't exagerate and "fish" for compliments. My wife is also a good critic and gives me lots of feedback and has no problem in being honest with her opinion, which is cool

I promise not to peer over the table so much while your sketching next time... (I'm lying)

(I'm gonna stare so hard it'll burn a hole through the paper)

Heh heh No problem. That's what people are there for... to come, watch, and get art. I just need to get less rusty drawing in front of people.
