To celebrate the release of the official Sonic The Hedgehog Cook Book (seriously, it's real) I wanted to draw a cute little piece with some of the characters. One where the guys are "helping" Amy in the kitchen.

My overall feelings on this piece are mixed. I think mostly everything looks good independently, but when put together don't work as well. For example, the characters are done with more of a cel-shading style, while the background is done with soft shading. I went with a softer look for the background so the characters would stand out a little better since they don't have outlines, but that didn't really work. Tails is practically camouflaged. I am pleased with the lineless Cel-shading look of the characters, It was interesting working on them since that's a style I don't really use. I wasn't looking at any reference, but in the back of my head I was thinking of Nathalie Haines Art on the IDW comic covers. Though looking at her work after the fact, I see a lot more going on that makes her art pop. I oughta' give that look a real effort some time. Oh well, Live and Learn by Crush 40, you know?

This was supposed to just be a simple fun piece, it got a little out of hand, and didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped. But I did learn some things to try again, and others to avoid. Regardless, it's done now, so I can work on other stuff.
