The detail on this is just amazing, as is the overall inking. Really well done - the only thing is that it looks a little busy due to the lack of solid whits and blacks, but then again that also makes it more realistic.

Thanks, I worked pretty hard on this one, and I was interested in trying to depict all the little details in the armor, ect. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!

Another very detailed drawing. Your patience must be almost limitless. All that chainmail plus the decoration on the wristguard and the bow....whoo! Great.

Thanks Caz I appreciate that, and yeah sometimes patience is the biggest thing to try and keep, I expect I put this one aside four or five times just out of fustration.

I like this a lot. I don't normally like collage pieces, but you handle them very well - they are not too 'busy', nor too 'empty' either - that's a hard feat to master and you have it down pat. Nice job! Love the expression on Legolas' face. That 'roud Dwarf' posture is perfect, too.

If I absolutely had to nitpick this to point out something constructive, the only thing I would say is that the arrow in Legloas' hand/bow is not held accurately. As an archer myself - his fingers aren't holding the shaft of the arrow, the way it appears to be drawn here, but rather it looks like the arrow stops just shy of the fingers and the pulled bowstring, essentially giving an appearance as though that arrow is about to fall to the ground. Perhaps add a bit of un-feathered wooden shaft sticking out behind the feathers between the fingers, if you're looking to accurately represent how an archer would hold the bow and arrow in that position.

Otherwise, though, I see nothing wrong with this. I like the job you did here. Very well drawn, love the shading, all of it. Nice work!!!

I love you comments and the archery lesson, I really like those things pointed out, because when I read or see something nothing takes me out of the "mood" than a overlooked or erroneous detail.

If you can't learn something new every day, then you're waisting your time.

"If you can't learn something new every day, then you're wasting your time."

LOL -- wiser words have never been spoken on that subject. ^_^ Your completely correct there! And your welcome - the only reason I spotted it is because I am an archer myself, I think. It's a very minor detail, but it's like the hand position of a sword - you wouldn't believe how many hours I've spent talking with fencers and swordsmen and the like and looking at photographs of how they hold their blades to get the hand positions correct when I DO use a sword in my artwork. Heheh.

Then again, maybe you might!!

I hoped you wouldn't take what I said as being sarcastic, I am very serious, I went back and looked at the photo reference, then some pics of some archers, and by golly you were right.

No, no. I was not being sarcastic at all. And I didn't think you were, either. No worries there!

I use photo references a lot in my own work - especially when it concerns things like racial features (ie, Inuktitut, German, Swedish, etc, if i'm trying to get a definite ethnic appearance), as well as weapon grips, swords, knives, guns, rifles, etc. it helps a lot. ^_^
