Mikhail through everything he had into the punch. He felt like a baby punching an oncoming tank, his hand smahed into the impervious hardness of Dmitriy's abs. He heard a crack as the bones of his hand splintered from the force of his blow. Dmitriy smiled, "Now, my turn."

Going back to my childhood, this is what it's made of.
I wanted to be so big and strong, I loved seeing Arnold kick all kinds of ass in Total Recall. Of seeing Greek heroes in my dad's sword and sandal films fight to the death and more.

Yes. The hero should always have much more muscle not only to be visibly larger and stronger in the sense he can lift and throw harder punches himself but be stronger so that his muscles are like a layer of armor. And as the photo shows, the hero should be mild mannered and humble. Patiently waiting for the bully to get in his ineffective punches.
Images of Superman or Hercules being punched or hit over the head with a piece of lumber and not even flinching.
Heck even goofy humble Herman Munster, although not visibly muscular, was invulnerable when a bully would try to hit him with something......such as a wrecking ball. Herman would then pick it up like it was nothing and start twirling it around like a pocket watch...and start lecturing the bully about not being nice.
