Chapter 3: New Beginnings

"Okay, they aren't listening anymore." Dad finally said after a long pause. I was beginning to think he brought me out here just to isolate me from the rest of the family. "Ty, there's some important stuff you gotta learn; since you got the family gene. I mean, you are still going to be a pretty normal kid, but your energy level will increase a bit. You will tend to get restless, and your hormones are going to start going on random rampages."

"What do you mean, 'random rampages'?" I asked in complete astonishment.

"You know, your 'urges' to fuck something will come up, occasionally. You'll just have to learn to control it or you'll end up like exactly like your father; a young, wild, perverted man with five kids and a beautiful wife you can't keep your hands off, even if it keeps me in trouble." He mumbled, sarcastically. I chuckled, half-heartedly. How could he say such a thing about himself?

"You are crazy, Dad…"

"Hey, Ty, I'm serious. It'll be like you aren't even in your body anymore. We get what most animals get; the heat for mating season. Only thing is, we get it at least three times a week compared to their one season a year. It'll get wearisome, especially when you don't have somebody to ease the frustration."

        "I'm pretty sure I can tough it out. I'm not a pervert."

        "You say that, now, kid…"

        "You mean, just because of the eyes-…"

        "It's not the eyes; that's just a bonus. Your genes have been mutated with more genetic material of a real wolf that the rest of the clans have. Which means, you're now that much closer to actually being a wolf than your brothers and your mother."

        I studied my father's stiff expression. It was as if he was taken aback that I now shared another similarity with him. Did he not want the gene to be passed down? Was this troubling him that much? I didn't understand any of it.

        "Dad… You were hoping this wouldn't happen, weren't you?" I whispered, gazing at the floor. I heard him sigh and adjust himself on his feet. Then, I looked up at my father. His eyes were glued to the window, passed my head.

        "I guess. I mean, the more of us created, the more mutated our race will be. I'm still looking into our bloodline as to why the mutation takes effect and what causes it. However, I haven't had much success down at the lab. What I do know is that it's like a doppelganger. It copies the same unique qualities of vitamin D and acts as a nutrient so that the body recognizes it as something it needs. You understand what I saying?" His gaze shifted to me. I nodded so that he could keep going. I wanted to know all that I could about this 'special gene'.

        "So, once the body recognizes the mutation, it multiples it on its own. There's nothing we can do about it because if we attempt to remove it, we might be removing the wrong thing; the real nutrients." I blinked. That isn't good. In order to get rid of this strange bloodline, the host would have to die, or not conceive at all. "Now you see the dangers of it. You're so smart, Ty. But, the advantages are great. Outrageous strength and speed, mental activity increased, less-active hunger, and of course the favorite; an energy boost for the bedroom."

        "Dad, you are a freak!" He chuckled at my insult and ruffled my hair.

        "I should have seen this coming. You were beginning to get nice and calm as you grew older, instead to the opposite. Your muscles filled in, even without the right exercise. Your first morph was at ten when it's supposed to be at twelve. I just assumed some young ones just grew a little quicker than others, but when your brothers came along, they all morphed when they turned twelve. All of them."

        "I'm sorry, Dad. I didn't ask for this."

        "I know you didn't and there's nothing to apologize for. Its fate and nothing can tamper with that."

        "Yeah, that's true…"

        "Keep thinking positive, alright? Now, hurry and eat your breakfast before the rest of them start getting suspicious, again."
