fasting, prepare our body
to receive
sweetly
spread open like an ancient map
draped in gone epistolaries
draw light into the mortuary
say no more apologies

blushing hot then ashing after
hung at dawn is the usual trade
though it is a bit old-fashioned
but I am no sage
my seance days are not at hand

that rhyme, that chant, that rich-toned chorus
I’ll snap up glorious words and words
I am always hungry

auger, unleash my eyes!

and taste this lovely bloody feast

into supple neck flesh
