Meet Koral - my first original palette swap Mortal Kombat ninja!

The idea was to create an orange female ninja in the MK9 style. I wanted to create something that was both unique, but also consistent with the overall aesthetic so she wouldn't look out of place next to MK9 Kitana, Jade, and Mileena. If there is interest, I may post a journal entry later on explaining my thought process and some of the changes her design went through.

Here is a brief character description:
Originally from Earthrealm, Amber was abandoned as a young child in Edenia. Lost in a foreign land, her death was all but certain. However, a chance encounter with Kitana led to Amber saving the young princess's life. Amber was given a new name -- Koral -- for the color of her hair. Koral grew up alongside Kitana and Jade, but was always hidden from public view due to her Earthrealm heritage. In time, she was trained by Jade to serve as an auxiliary bodyguard for Kitana and was even granted longevity through ancient sorcery. Koral is a master of the three-section-staff and is as deadly as she is beautiful.

I know original characters don't usually get as much attention as fanart of known characters, but I would really appreciate any feedback or comments!   Let me know who you would like to see next, or if you'd like to see more original female MK ninja designs from me.

DESIGN PROCESS:
Of my original ninjas, Koral was the first character to be created. The design was based mainly on the outfit I wanted to give her. Kitana and Jade both offer plenty of cleavage through their boob windows. For an orange ninja, I wanted to show off underboob instead. I also gave her low riding shorts with a V cut out which, along with the underboob, creates a fun silhouette on her midriff.

Once her torso was designed, the rest fell into place rather quickly. Instead of full arm-length gloves that the canon ninjas have, I gave her shorter gloves that felt a bit like a biker. I wanted to give her more of a western feel to distinguish her origins (Earthrealm) from Jade and Kitana (Edenia).

The three-section-staff was chosen to give her a unique weapon. I liked that it shows that she's a martial arts expert and can absolutely hold her own, but isn't necessarily too blood thirsty compared to characters that use bladed weapons (e.g. Mileena, Skarlet). It also hints that she was trained by Jade.

The name Koral was chosen cause because coral is actually a shade of orange. It also gave me an excuse to use the hard "K" sound that Mortal Kombat is so famous for.

Below is the mock-up I did of her design. This was basically the first design I drew, as I didn't really have to do many iterations with her. From early on I could envision what I wanted. Most of the original design stayed in place. The two major changes are 1) I didn't give her a white streak in her hair; it just seemed unnecessary, and 2) Having only black straps on her right thigh made her design look a bit bare next to Kitana, Jade, and Mileena. To give her a little extra something, I gave her fishnets tights. This went along nicely with the more western, biker-esque look.
