Description I first went to London when I was 13, and I'll never forget how small I felt. Having been brought up in the country, it was perplexing at best to suddenly find myself in the middle of a city.

At 17, I moved there, and this is a photograph I took way back then. It had been raining, and the light was of that fresh quality that makes every colour seem brighter, newer. Looking out over the city, it seemed to stretch on forever, in all directions, and I felt, more than I have ever felt elsewhere, just how much of a small part I was in this great big spiderweb of life... I felt at once small and unimportant, yet connected and a part of everything around me.

Later that year, my mental health began to deteriorate drastically. This photograph commemorates the time before that. Before my illness, back when life was still fresh and new, and unfolding before me, like a great long city, seeming to reach out forever...
