Description (A commission from a friend of mine, MarryGold)

Bandits have existed long before the great war, and still exist even in the wasteland 200 years later. Not as crazy and chaotic as raiders, they can often be negotiated with, as avoiding violence's more than often is on the top of their priority. But if push comes to shove, Bandits can and will prove themselves far more dangerous than raiders, as well as being just as cruel. What makes them so much more dangerous than the raiders is that they are often well trained, are better equipped, and plan ahead. By the time a merchant sees a bandit, it is too late, and any attempt at fighting is futile.

Despite their violent and cruel nature, many famous bandits are often remembered as folk heroes and dashing villains.

One such group is the Tunnel Snake Bandits, who inhabit the south west mountains of Equestria. Descendant from a chem smuggler gange, after the bombs fell they became the only true authority along the mountain, charging protection fees to all the ponies who took shelter in the vast mine systems that dotted the mountain. Over time they became both oppressors and defenders for the ponies there, keeping the mountain ponies in, but also outside threats out. And when there is a need for materials that can't simply be found on the mountains, they would descend to obtain it, be it through negotiation, extortion, or robbery. This includes the expansion of their territory.

-Commonly used weapons among bandits-

As many bandit clans have existed even before the war, there is a commonality among the weapons they use. That being blackpowder guns, though this is more to do with them being among the few groups who make their own guns. Though obsolete compared to the guns found all over the wasteland, there is no need to scavenge for new guns and ammo when they can just make more with basic tools. Often to make up for the lack of automatic fire, the guns are commonly made for more power and accuracy, where one shot is all they need to get the job done.

The Colt Gatling Cannon was Colt Manufacturing's attempt to copy the Zebras gatling gun, taking what little they still knew about weapons manufacturing to make a repeating gun. As a result they made a 50. caliber gun that was both unwieldy and hard to transport, but proved useful in helping slow the Zebras march to Equestria. Though many would be made, it’s life as a weapon of war would be short lived and be later sold to collectors and those interested in teaching gun design.

Late in the war, though equestria had little in the way of gun control, heavy weapons were a line that the ministry would not let cross, and so were weapons of the military only. This did not include anything that used black powder for its ammunition, creating a legal loophole for any pony with the money and drive to have their own personal big gun. The Colt Gatling Cannon would become a must have for any inspiring survivalist pony, both as a trophy, and as an emergency fuck you in case the Zebras ever did invade. In the wasteland, this gun can still be found as a backup arsenal for any major settlement or hidden community.

The Winchesters had been making guns for generations, used as tools for driving back monsters that lived in the wild parts of Equestria, so for those who lived on farms at the border of wild places, the simple single shot shotgun became an indispensable tool. Reliable and as powerful as the pony needed it, anypony who owned one often owned many more just in case. It was also a commonly used gun for security that protected ports and warehouses, or as training guns for foals.

Even before the Windchesters departure from Equestria, the Thunder Stick was already a popular and well stocked gun, and after their departure, not a shelf had been left molested by buyers. Due to their simple and very durable design, the Thunder Stick’s survived the wasteland for 200 years without even a single misfire, and would even survive being at megaspell destination sights, if a bit burnt.

If a gun can be called romantic, then the leveraction was the king of romance in the Equestria gun world. The Windchester Bush Gun would find itself as both the most desired survival rifle, a favored sporting rifle, and beating out the Griffonstone Typewriter for most featured on the silver screen. Though it’s legendary ruggedness is more legendary then rugged, the Bush Gun would still more than prove it’s worth whenever needed. This gun would even find itself used in the Great War by an eccentric trooper, to the Zebra’s shock.

Due to its popularity, blueprints for the Bush Gun could be found all over the wasteland, and if a pony had the right tools, could make their own, though not easily. Using pistol caliber that can easily be changed up or down in size and power, this carbine rifle can be used for either varmint hunting with many small bullets, or a heavy hitter that even a Steal Ranger would not want to be hit by.

Among the oldest guns with the strangest history, the Colt Friend Maker started out as a proper revolver for driving off monsters, and from there a legendary toy for foals. Simply called the Colt SAR (single action revolver) it would be mass produced for those living on the frontier, but could not afford a Winchester rifle. In time, the need for the revolver would diminish, and eventually it’s production would end as Colt changed their business to party supplies. The SAR would then only be seen on the silver screen, used by heroes and villains alike, often in the hooves of side characters of both sides. Because of this, many part planners would make requests to have SAR as part props for foals, and seeing business in it, Colt would make the first “Friend Maker” SAR, later just called the Colt Friend Maker. Though as time went on, those foals would grow up, and the Colt Friend Maker would lose its popularity, to the point of it’s production again being stopped. When the War Started up, and Colt was brought back into the weapons manufacturing business, many elderly ponies who fondly remembered the Colt Friend maker from when they were foals, would begin making requests for Colt to begin producing the gun again, but as a real gun. What started as a limited run soon turned into a proper production line for an old, yet beloved gun.

In the wasteland, Colt Friend Makers proved to be surprisingly versatile pistols. Using black powder and a sturdy design, this revolver would end up outlasting many of its modern rivals as ammunition dwindled in the more remote places. For pony communities trying to be self sustainable, this revolver would become indispensable.
