Yn grew up in a city with a hunger to learn more about the unknown. Their family was judgmental about Yn’s love for science, and questioning the heavenly principles. Yn family are the leaders of a temple to the archons. As a kid Yn was punished harshly by the family for reading, experimenting, anything that was deemed Wicked. The punishments left permanent discoloration on Yn’s hands.

Yn threw themselves into their work and took multiple jobs to get enough money to get into a good college. Once they graduated from school, Yn traveled around learning about the wildness and other lands. Yn joined the fatui to learn more and free others who suffered under the archons followers. Yn works through the ranks and now works with Dottore.

Their work relationships are professional only. Yn works with Dottore but there are lines Yn will not cross without trying other ways. Yn travels to Mondstadt after a mission that brings up terrible memories. Yn wanted some wine and food to feel some comfort. As they sat alone by waterway crying into their hands.

A girl named Wendi Anderson found them. She shared her food with Yn and tried comforting them. Over time, Yn and Wendi grew to be close friends. They learned a lot from each other. Wendi unknowingly offered a different world of knowledge to Yn. When she allowed them to take the blood sample. Now Yn must balance this knowledge and keep its origin (Wendi) a secret.
