I love the ink marks visible in the water and I think the lack of colour is appropriate for the mood you can feel here. A wonderfully simple yet powerful piece.

I'm afraid of drowning too, but that fear draws me closer to water. I love it. It fascinates me. I always want to touch it, be in it, if I'm near any water.

I think it's very good in it's simplicity, technically and emotionally.

Indeed. That's what art is for though, right? Getting the sadness out.

For me, creating art is like crying. You hold it in as long as you can...until you have to let go. Then, when the moment of surrender is revealed, your mind, your heart, and your spirit are completely and thoroughly relieved and revealed.

Yes, I am a great lover of Alice. There was definitely some Carroll influence here.

I thought it was vector at first but I'm glad it's not, looking at full view you can see the texture of the paper showing through the ink a little and it looks really great.
As for the image itself it is striking and conveys the emotion well. I like it.

Funny, he does know my work fairly well. I don't know. I think the drawing is pretty weak myself, but what's important to me is the feeling the piece conveys. [shrug]

You need to yell as loud as you can,
"Paul Is Awesooooome some some some!"
notice the echo in the end.

it totally works. it has the feel of a classic postbill for an elegant show somewhere in a European city. or maybe a more emotional "obey giant" style image that could be repeated across public places to make people think...this is better non-vectored. the organic grit gives it extra vitality.

digifox In reply to zeruch [2004-04-25 03:36:15 +0000 UTC]
This piece is technically weak enough that if I vectored it, it would be very obvious that something is missing. But with the ink, there's the feeling of "realness" that overrides the lacking. (And I had to use a friggin' sea of ink. Appropriate.)
Not a masterpiece by any stretch, but it felt good to document the moment in my life.

the face looks..missing, of colour? and face seems a bit simplistically (badly...) drawn.

liquidscissors In reply to seas [2004-04-23 15:52:42 +0000 UTC]
Tell me, why do you equate simplicity with being badly drawn? That is the sort of comment that needs backup, otherwise it's as useful as a 'thats nice' or 'that sucks.'
To me, the face is technically perfect. There is balanced use of white-space, the lines are precise and everything balances out nicely into thirds. To add colour onto the face would crowd and compete against the expanse of black ink, and the image would lose the air of striking simplicity.

oki doki then!
the eyes have no expression to them, they're irregular too, the eyebrows look bad. the hair (outher part) looks boring, bad.

re the eyes having no expression to them: sometimes when you cry so much you get numb but you're still crying. kinda like you're in shock. i don't know if that was what was being aimed at here, but it seems so to me.

Creating a vectorized version of this would make it too clean. I like it just the way it is.
